Catbacks are from the cats and back for pre 05mustangs. Axle backs are from the axle and back which are shorter. They are for 05 and up mustangs

Cat back goes from behind the cats back while axlebacks just extend from the axle back

Cat back is pretty much short for catalytic converter back. So taking everything after the cats and back. On the 05+ they has the mufflers that bolted on right after the down pipes from the axle, those are axle backs.

The 05+ can have catbacks instead of axle backs, but Pre 05 can't have axle backs.

Full catback will be better but either will be corked until the stock mid pipe goes bye bye.
