ticking from center of engine

so I don't think the ticking is coming from under the valve covers I listened closely and it seems to be from the middle of the motor... do youthink an exhaust manifold leak would cause that or am I looking at something else

I hate to mention this, but... I had some ticking a while back and since I didn't change my head gasket a chunk of gasket clogged the oil, and wrecked the lifters. A mechanic I know told me that the 4.6 2V were bad about doing that if the gaskets weren't changed every 100k or so miles ( I recommend letting a shop listen to it)

Only thing in middle is main bearings and crank. Possible oil pump going bad. Either way needs attention

Have u added zmax or Lucas??lots of posts on here about tic...if your intake was leaking it would be a vacuum more than tic..in center of motor its fuel inj. Unless a wire arching....

---------- Post added at 01:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 PM ----------

Sound could travel from ex mani but you can narrow it down with the steth..

Inj. Tic no matter what u do...but cleaners work...I use seafoam in my car and have run it in lots of costumers cars...zmax is good too but pricey...if I were u n couldn't narrow it down.I'd check my plugs r tight, rubber is good on coils, run some lucas in oil,put some seafoam in tank, and check exh. Man for any black soot:...

just changed my pugs and boots so all should be good and ticking was before I changed them as well...
had my exhaust checked at midas and they said there was no leaks.
removed my belt and ran the car tick was still there. replaced belt
pulled conector for injectors one at a time and tick was still there
had lucas in my oil previous oil change, still had tick. just had engine flushed and oil changed few days ago, no lucas but still tick
hmmm seafoam for injector cleaner?... I heard its a terrible idea to use.

Ive used it for years but use a different kind if u like...and you can run high octane for a couple tanks since u run 89 usually..

I was told 89 is what I should be running that running the wrong fuel even premium is bad for your engine. it seemed to runn better with premium maybe I should fill up a tank again

If your running 89 u shouldn't go down to 87 but going up to 93 is not harmful...since u run 89 now when u put in 93 u will notice the it run stronger...

---------- Post added at 02:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:51 PM ----------

Trust me when I was young like 20yrs ago I ran 93 then I put 87 to save money for a drive to Florida and I was pinging until I filled it back up with 93...

Is this the same noise from your other post???

---------- Post added at 03:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:00 PM ----------

2 things I think from your tube vid....1. Check your egr tube...2. Check your PCv valve and tube..I'm thinking this is your problem...

Sounds like more of an exhaust tic leak so check egr and then the pcv tube might make that sound also...

Pull the PCV valve, from the valve cover, with the vacuum line still attached, and the engine running, of course, and listen for any noise.

I replaced the pcv valve and had the exhaust checked from a mechanic and he couldn't find a leak .... are you saying pull the pcv valve and listen to see if it stops or pull it and see if ic an hear the noise inside the valve cover

Lol
Both.
Listen to the noise that the PCV makes AND anything else that you happen to hear.
You're definitely narrowing it down...

oh no just the exhaust manifold and back ... s your saying the egr tube may be causing the tick?.... okay I will remove the pcv valve and listen inside the hole to see if it sounds to be coming from inside there... not sure what to do with the egr to be honest

The tube is hot so be careful but check it for leaks at the welds and where it screws into the bottom of egr...Midas would of found where it connects to converter but check tube as far down as you can...I have seen the tubes have lil pin dot holes in them that are hard to find cause the heat finds a weak spot in metal and pokes thru...so use a light and check it good before you get it hot...

---------- Post added at 03:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:57 PM ----------

Check pcv tube also like straybullitt said...
