Loud pop

Ok I was driving today in my 02 GT and I hear a loud pop under the good and the ac stops working. I'm thinking my belt broke so I pull over and check it out and the belt is fine. I get back in the car and the ac is working perfect. Any thoughts?

I'm no mechanic, and I'm not sure what, under the hood, could make a loud popping noise. Did you check the pipes leading in and out of the AC compressor? I wonder if you lost pressure in that system. I think you'd have some residual cooling ability, but it wouldn't last. I would also check your radiator hoses and jug. Anything under pressure could make a loud noise, but you'd generally expect to see evidence of a failure.
