Thinking of a supercharger

Thinking of adding a supercharger to my 96 GT. It's mostly stock with the exception of simple bolt ons. I was going to look into buying a different mustang this winter/spring but may keep mine and add some more power as that will be cheaper in the long run. Not looking for crazy power, just some more fun. Looking to be around 300-325 rwhp in the end. I've read that one can piece together a vortech kit for around 2k, but wondering if it's better to just buy a new kit? Any info or opinions of what I should do or use would be welcome. Thanks!

Piecing together your own kit can pretty much be a new kit. The parts are new but the headunit will be used but can send to vortech to be rebuilt. It will be a non intercooled kit but you can easily get one for $1500.

With the power he is looking for he should be fine without an intercooler.

Any opinions on the best place to purchase the other needed items other than the head unit. I know I will be able to find a used one or lightly used I should say on Craig's or other sites.

That's what I was thinking. I don't want anything extreme, just a healthy boost.

Most people know about the piecing together of kits now and bumped up the price a ton. I saw a few headunits I was looking for last night for 1-2k by them self.

That sucks. Always has to be ruined! Damn capitalism. I haven't found anything yet myself. I'll continue to search over the long Michigan winter, and see what happens. If I don't feel like I will find a decent deal, I will sell my car and use the money with whatever else I have and buy something more complete or more of what I want now. Just like the fact of knowing what I have done to me car vs buying someone else's project etc.
