1997 mustang gt reverse problems

Hello just recently purchased a 1997 gt convertible.
After I purchased it started having problems reversing as the gears would grind what can I do?

Welcome to the wonderful world of the T-45 transmission. Nothing you can do short of a trans rebuild or swap to one that is known to not have the issue.

Try to got 1st, 1st, reverse. Or get the car moving very slightly forward, then stop and then go into reverse. Mine has trouble going into reverse sometimes but I can always get it in if I do one of those things.

Like I said, 1st, 1st, reverse and do the roll trick. This is a known issue with the T-45s, Ford has a TSB out for it. If you get your trans rebuilt by someone like t45source they will always do the reverse fix during the rebuild for you. If you can't get it to stop doing it by one of the methods I listed well... nothing you can do short of a rebuild.

Same issue here. I put mine in 5th gear first, this stops the synchronizers, then with the clutch still in, shift right into reverse.

Sometimes I even have to let out the clutch a bit as I'm moving the shifter into reverse.
