This sucks.

Well I guess I'm not gonna be able to get a bama tuner for Christmas. My mom thinks it's gonna turn my car into a race car. She says I don't need to go faster.

tell her you need it to balance the car out for the mods you have done,(since you cant go back to stock) & that you need it for the car to run right, which equals the car lasting longer, ruining better, and more efficient and not faster. try and compromise with her.

While your mom has a good point in, you "don't need to go faster" the tuner does much more then add power! Mystang makes all great points. It's going to balance out all of your current mods which will make the car run better, last longer and much more efficient, along with gains in gas mileage! While it will add some power, there's so many great benefits to a tuner. Checking/Clearing check engine lines, adjusting for gears etc.. are also some features of this device!

Best of luck, I hope it all works out! You can always use the good old, "adding a tuner isn't going to take me from a bolt on GT to a Race car, mom" I've used that one a few times!

How old are you Hunter? If your parents bought the car for you there's really nothing you do about them not wanting you to put a part on THEIR car. Wait until you are out on your own and the car is yours, then you can do whatever you want to it. Don't mean to sound like a hard a$$ but I've been in your shoes.

I understand. When I was your age I had an old fullsize Chevy truck with about 180hp 350 v8. LoL my parents didn't want me to put Flowmasters on it because they were afraid i would be out "hot rodding it." Eventually i convinced them and after I was "rockin the flows" i kept my promise to not be out acting stupid. Hang in there man!

Tell her the tuner makes the pony more efficient, thereby saving gas and trees. "You DO want me to be conscious of the environment...right??"

I beg to differ, anything from minor bolt ons to full bolts ons on the 2v a handheld tuner is absolutely worth it IMO

Hell, if you're 17 and making payments, buy it yourself. A tuner is probably the best bang for your buck mod, and it's not like you have any warranties you can void. Even like AMDanBailer said, it has potential to make your car not only faster, but run better and more efficiently as well. There's not much of a downside to a handheld tuner from a reliable tuning company.

For those that believe a tuner adds mpgs, I'd like to sell you my ocean front property in Arizona. Ford may have left a lot on the table, but I guarantee you it wasn't mpgs. Common sense says, mpgs sell car's.

I'm not quite sure if I was included in that, but you do have a good point. I actually get worse MPG's with my tuner at the moment.

OP just get the tuner and tune your car. Don't tell your mom. It's not something you can see or easily tell unless it's you cuz you know what your car drives like.

TL;DR
Buy the tuner keep it a secret

It's not really the power that makes them dangerous, it's the solid rear axle and rain. Mine hydroplaned once, but I will never let it happen again.

Literally getting a tune is the most covert mod you could get for your car. There is no way your mom would ever know that you actually got a tune, unless she knows how to tune cars herself lol

Just tell her your car will blow up if it's not tuned right and it's a need!

We've seen countless and countless customers get better MPG after installing a Bama custom tune. I have personal experience with our Bama tunes and my car went from getting 16.6 to 19.8 MPG (City) after the tune. Obviously you have to drive the car like your mothers in the car with you but there is proven gas mileage gains!

Hope this helps!
