The 01 has an upgraded fuel system and I guess better suspension. Only has about 15 more hp though both had the 4.6 V8

The 01 has better heads, no IMRCs and IRS. Better power, way better midrange power and no secondary ports to get junked up every 10k miles like in the 96-98 Cobras.

So from what I can see the 01 won. Thank you guys.

The reason I was asking is because I had the opportunity to trade my car for any of those 2 cars in which I wanted the 01 pretty badly. After I drove the 01 I was disappointed, it ran like crap compare to mine. So the sales person took me to the 96 in which ran really nice but I felt my car was as fast at the least and looks nice inside and out.
So I decided to just stay with my car for now.

I take it your car, and the 96' Aren't stock? And assuming the 01' was abused quite a bit?

Honestly the 96 is a better platform.

No, its the SAME platform, the 99-04 cars are just re-skinned but the chassis is identical. I mean there are SOME things as far as electronics/fuel system etc... but its the same for all intents and purposes. Lowflyn just doesn't like the IRS. The C heads are better although the 96-98 Cobra did get the best stock 4V cams from 93-05. Common "upgrade" is to swap in 96-98 Cobra cams into whatever 4V but the C headed cars still make more power.

If you don't like the IRS you don't like the IRS. Much easier and more economical to swap the IRS for a SRA than it is to do a C head upgrade to a 96-98. You'll be able to trade a IRS for a SRA straight up on your timeline and have ppl fighting over it. Also a properly built IRS is better for a street or handling car IMO.

The 01 irs is a 28 spline setup...most people avoid them at all cost.

Its not as bad as ppl make it out to be. With the right setup that eliminates wheel hop the 28 spline can hold up pretty well. Its the wheel hop that causes most of the breaks and yeah with the 01s pushing over 12 years old now anyone who gets one and doesn't expect the IRS bushings to be shot is an idiot. Not if they are original. One of the first things you do when you buy a IRS car is yank the IRS out and install a good aftermarket bushing kit.

Also, the SRA is not really lighter once you do a torque arm/panhard bar setup. I mean it is but not by very much.

I dropped 300lb going from irs to sra. The ftbr kit is nice but the money involved is a bit ridiculous.

I know you drop weight stock for stock. But the SRA is kind of bleh unless you convert to a 3 link which adds the weight of the tqA and PHB like I said. The FTBR kit is no more expensive than going to the aformentioned setup and nowhere near as ridiculous as some places like MM want.
