Rebuild/Upgrade TR3650

I'm starting to get my research together on upgrading my transmission. I think the more and more I read on T56magnum and other 6speeds the more I get turned off. I agree that the extra gear would help me cruising on the interstate but who cares about MPGs? I don't anyway... I don't want two overdrive gears. Silly.

So I'm probably sticking with a 5 speed.

However I'll need my stock TR3650 to handle a considerable amount more power. So is there any rebuild kit that caters to that need? I've found this so far but don't know if that really upgraded the torque capacity of the transmission.

D&D Performance - YK6 3650 Upgrade Kit

If anyone has any ideas or more information for me to consider I would really appreciate it. And just so you know I will not switch to a 4 speed or an auto...

Does that kit upgrade the gears themselves or just the synchros? A quick Google search yielded this http://www.modularfords.com/threads/...e-3650-upgrade

Have you thought about a close ratio 6 speed? That night yield more useable gears

The close ratio 6 speed is what comes in the Terminator. Has a .62 6th gear, same as the 5th gear in the 3650. 3650 also has aftermarket alloy gearsets available now with DEEP overdrives but those are "**** you money" and not really needed unless you are over the 600-700hp mark. And at that point you might want to go auto anyway.

For a rebuild I would look at Hanlon and T3650source (same guys as t45source). IMHO there is no reason to get a T-56 at all unless you HAVE to have the .50 final gear and that's the wide ratio trans.

Thanks for the info y'all.

I'm getting a lot of mixed answers as to what a stock TR3650 can handle. Anyone have any experience to a breaking point? I guess the shafts would snap the splines first, eh? So how much power would rape the splines? Stock 10 spline.

500rwhp is about where the 10 spline shafts start to twist off. If you have a good one that doesn't have the problems some of the 3650s have it should take that power level.

That's scary. I should be right around that power level.. I guess as long as I don't launch from a dig my tranny might have a fighting chance.

Eh, some guys beat the **** out of them and they go and go, on the other hand my buddy had one replaced under warranty that went out at 30k miles on a stock 2004 GT. If you don't want to get stranded at the track or on the side of the road I'd upgrade now if funds allow.

Funds do not allow. :/ And I get free towing with my insurance so that's fine. Haha.

Guess I'll just take it easy for now.

Welp if you are right at the 500whp level you should be ok as long as you aren't dropping it at 5k on slicks at the track...

Thanks Scotty. I shouldn't be beating it up too bad for quite a while.
