OIL PRESSURE AHHHHH

okay so lately when I start my car my stock oil pressure gauge doesn't move, stays dead... then a little while later it shoots up to just past half where it usually would be. Is it just frozen cold or should I be concerned

How cold has it been getting where you're at? I know your other thread said Canada. What weight oil are you running?

The stock oil pressure gauge in the cluster is nothing more than an on/off switch that comes on at 6 psi. It is not accurate and you can have dangerously low pressure and nothing will alert you until your motor seizes.

With that said... if it is off you might have an oil pressure issue but more likely it is just a bad sender or the gauge itself is jacked. Best bet is to install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge that will tell you what pressure you are actually running.

I guess I can finally justify a pillar gauge pod
It does come on but not until the car is on for a few minutes.
Would my temp not shoot up if the car was about to sieze?

How long have you been running it like this?

couple weeks now . I was thinking it was just cold. Car sounds normal and the oil level is proper so I wasn't that concerned

I installed a oil pressure gauge for this exact reason. I would definitely check your oil level. Like scotty stated, the stock gauge only kicks on at 6 psi. So don't trust it, and also like he stated, how long has it been doing that?

As for seizing, if the pump is bad, it'll seize up for sure, if its from low to no oil, your timing chain tensioners could fail, bearings could scorch/break, rods could snap..etc...etc....
