so i've decided....

i've decided what im doing with my car, now all i need is your guys' opinions on brands and suggestions of where to get said brands.

im starting with cams. im going to be upgrading my cams in my '02 4.6L but i dont know anything about the different brands.. so what do you guys think? i want the most bang for my buck, obviously.

Then im moving on to a performance chip. i've heard a lot of good things about tuning chips, but i've also heard a lot of stories of people getting really ****ty chips for way to much money...

and finally, exhaust. my friend suggested SLP Loudmouth 1 or 2 (he couldnt remeber which one he thought sounded better) but i've also had people tell me brands like magnaflow or others like that would be better.. i still have no idea if i want X or h (h is the more muscle car sounding one right?) i want it to sound as badass as i can...

after that im probably just doing cosmetics.

thanks for all the input guys!

To give you opinions on brands we need to know your budget.

•don't get cams unless you have gears first. Anything higher than a stage 1 cam, and you will pretty much need them.

•custom grinds are the best for these motors. Good off the shelf cams: Houston performance 292 cams, cushman motorsports (CMS) stage 2, hitech stage 2 cams.

•you will need to have them degreed to get the most out of your cams

•don't get a "chip" tune. Get a handheld tuner. Than order a custom tune. Some companies like Bama and Steeda have free tunes for life.
But if you DO get cams, a custom tune will do you no good. You NEED a dyno tune. However you should still get a handheld to hold your custom dyno tune.

Honestly cams should be one of the last things done to the car, I would definitely do bolt-ons first before doing cams. Install is pretty expensive for them and for the price you can probably pick up a used Vortech (depends on the deal you find)

Coolpony hit the bail on the head with the chips. I would just invest in a hand held tuner because you can read OBD codes and data log to dial in your tune.

For exhaust I personally believe SLPs sound like ****. The muffler is literally just a slightly larger in diameter straight pipe. I personally love Magnaflows and Borla Stingers. If you ever want to know what the Magnaflow SS catback sounds like then let me know.

OP,

Some great information has been said already. What are your current mods? Auto or 5 spd car?

SLP does sound like sh** unless you get the power flos which actually have a muffler. Cams are going to do you little without LT's, o/r mid (at the most hi-flow cats), 2.5" CB and at least 3.73's, preferably 4.10's. Search around for used blower kits or hit up on 3 performance for the turbo kit. All can be had for just a little more than cams and the installation. Bit you make 100+ more hp/tq with endless power potential with a built block.
