03 gt sounds weird ( need help)

Hi, this is my first post here. Couple months ago I bought 03 gt automatic and upgrade some dirt bolt on

Here the list:
Airaid intake
Steeda under drive pulleys expect alternator pulley
SLP loudmouth resonator
SR intake spacer
BBK off road x-pipe
BBK 78mm throttle intake body
Sct/x3 BAMA tuner

Here the problem
0-38 it's goes smoother but right when it's hit 40mph or 4th gear. It shakes little bit and car exhausted sound goes down and lose some power but you can hear the car suck up the air from intake and then I have to press on the gas and car comes back to life and everything normal
why does it do that?
Any ideas?

HI, glad to see your post, hope to help out. I don't know what you mean by DIRT boltons. Did you upgrade it or did you buy it that way? I will assume you bought it with what you call Dirt bolt ons from a previous owner, and its does this since you bought it? Does this happen if your on a completely empty road rated to 65mph and just mash the gas and it does that at 40Mph?

Or does it happen when driving in traffic slowly to that speed? Lots of information missing to guess what you problem might be?

My wildest guess is it came this way and why it was sold. Sounds like the tune isn't taking to some fuel/air/vacuum issues, or you got a bad vacuum leak somewhere.

Art (I googled "dirt bolt on" and only found things about dirt bikes

I know lol. It probably just shifting into the next gear. And that's why it goes to lower rpms

Does it do that while going WOT?

This is what it sounds like to me, as long as it is not doing this at wot.... When I am driving around town at slow cruising speeds my car downshifts at about 40mph and that's what it sounds like the op is describing.

I had this same problem with my 97 f150. It was the torque converter was acting up around the same speeds you're describing. A simple trans flush made it run like new again.

Wot means wide open throttle.

But sounds normal to me. Even when I'm going slow as soon as I lift up the gas pedal it will shift into the next gear.

Than it lags getting up because I'm low in the RPMs

I have a 2000 gt auto. Yes when using little throttle it will go to 4th in overdrive at 35 to 40 and be around 1300 rpm. It is really boggy there.

Have an 04 auto and it does the EXACT same thing. Smash the gas, burnouts etc ok issue. But barely giving it has around 40-45 almost like the car pulses ad lags a bit. The feel Makes me think of driving a manual and takin off in a higher gear then need be. I've flushed everything. Changed plug and fuel filter and the car runs better than ever. Don't sweat it, it's a slush box lol! Oh and often times I just click the overdrive off when that low and as soon as the Rpms jump in the lower gear it's gone!

My suggestion is the tune could be tweaked for the auto trans to prevent this. Even my ford stock sport tune "S" sport mode in the 2013 was made so this didn't happen. It would happen in the daily "D" mode.

The tuner should be able to get the transmission to "hang" in the 3r5d gear a little longer?

saleenfan04,

The symptoms you're describing sound like the normal operation of this auto transmission. You're right at the shift point at 35-40mph and if you're in the higher gear, the car will feel sluggish until it downshifts or RPM raises with more speed.

I can tell you switching to 24lb injectors at this point won't have any positive effects to your engine. The stock injectors can supply plenty of fuel for a bolt-on GT and don't need to be upgraded until you start looking into camshafts or boost. The only effects of changing to a 24lb injector will be a lighter wallet, at this point. Keep your stock injectors and you'll be glad you saved the cash.

If you purchase into the Bama Free Tunes for Life program, than can adjust your shifts points higher in the RPM range if you prefer that. It may get you out of the sluggish spot you seem to hit often.

Hope this helps!

Shane

Just want to say thx everyone for great help. I just got dyno tune up and it was shift into 4th gears at lower rpm. They change the tune and now 3rd gears end at 3000 or higher and 4th shift at 1600 which makes it better.
Everything smother now once again thx everyone

Don't upgrade injectors. You're not even close to maxing out you're stock ones

These motors only make a fraction of their max hp at 1200 to 1800 rpm. But then again all motors are like that.

I have an auto as we'll and you're fine. It's the transmissions doing its thing.
