Mark 8 4v in 01 gt?

Does anyone on here have this set up?? Because I'm looking into getting an 01 gt with mark 8 4v swap and I wanted to know if there us any way or any parts I would need to make the motor stronger and capable of boost whether it was a twin screw (Whipple/Kenne Bell) or a single turbo set up.. if anyone could help it would greatly be appreciated

32VNomad did a Mark 8 swap but he isn't on here very often. I believe those motors are just like the other 4.6 DOHC motors as far as bottom end goes so it'll let go around the 430-450whp mark

Even with forged rods and pistons?? but Idk about the crank since its a 4 bolt If I'm not mistaken and the 96-98 cobra is a 6 bolt

With a forged bottom end those motors can handle some abuse, just look at Terminators, the block can handle a lot it's just the factory rods and pistons that can't. I would double check the four bolt crank . Mustangs came with Eight bolt or 6 bolt cranks depending on the year, I don't see why ford would decide to run a 4 bolt in just those cars. But I am not an expert on these motors so take my advice with a grain of salt

Thank you for the answer sorry its so late my notifications are messed up.. Now its the cobra crank and pistons simply drop in and go or does the block need to be bored for clearance ?

4.6L blocks are all the same for the most part so the parts will all swap. But if you are asking if you can just drop in and go without having the block checked/align honed/bored if needed... no...

Regardless you HAVE to take the block to a shop to get the bores checked and align honed. Some will need bored out .010 or .020 over, some will hone up true, if they do need bored out you obviously have to get new pistons. As for the rods, you can use termi rods or you can get Boss rods new from Ford for $160 for the whole set. They fit modulars and are strong, think 800whp strong. As for the Cranks, the ones in the Marks are 6 bolt cast, the 8 bolt forged ones came in all Cobras and the Mach 1 5 speeds. There is also an 8 bolt cast crank that came in the 99/00 Windsor PI motors so watch out for those.

Honestly, IMO, if you have a 2V just stay 2V and build that. Ported PI heads will support 700whp and TFS heads will support even more. 4V is no longer a "must do" swap for big power and really never was if you didn't need to go above what the PI heads could take. Plus, unless you have a terminator the bottom ends let go at the same time anyway.

Thanks for the info man!! And I was thinking the same thing with the 2v but I wanted to build this one up a bit just for a simple turbo and have it around 430-460whp then when I'm done with UTI next december I'm gonna get a built pro mid 4v block from DSS Racing

I once had a Marine from Boston or the Boston area ask me if there were "ammed gaads" on the aircraft. Took me literally like 3 tries and thinking for a minute before I understood wtf he was asking. "Armed guards?". Yeah...

Guy I used to work with was from New Hampshire, and he had a thick accent. When he was asked where he was from he would tell them "Sarasota fl"

Leave it alone, do not touch it if you get it and I personally would not get that car unless it is STUPID cheap. Unless the guy has receipts and everything for the install. If not, you have no idea what sort of corners were cut or torque values were or were not used etc... Even on my 98 which is a VERY clean car I'm finding a few things where its like "wtf seriously?".

But... if you DO wind up getting it, I would just drive it and do whatever bolt ons it does not have and enjoy. A bolt on B headed 4V is a solid 300+whp car. And the powdered rods tend to let go anywhere from 400-450hp depending on the tune/driving etc... no matter the application.

Thanks man and will the reg 4v cams from american muscle work with the stock mark 8 heads and the car is $2500 and supposedly the motor has 68k miles and 150k on the body its a 01 gt also are the B heads as u mentioned the 96/98 cobra heads also would I need to swap the crank for them Yo work since its a 6 bolt??... sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to put everything in one basket and add it all up to see if the swap is worth all the hassle

If it runs well for $2500 that is actually a good deal. I would just do bolt ons, cosmetics, get a tune and call it good for awhile. I would not do cams at this time.

In all honesty I think the R hoods of all types are a little played out. EVERYONE has them it seems, my car came with one or I would have put something else on. I very often kick around the idea of putting on a basic Cervini's cowl hood and selling the R hood I have on the 98. Non Cobra cowl hoods look great on SN95s and New Edges. So do the heat extractors but YMMV. All personal preference.

True I like the normal cowl ones a bit better and I love the 03 cobra ones but luke u said cowl hoods are a bit over played but they do look so damn menacing especially if ur cars all black
