Open it Ideas

I got a 2002 GT Convertible with Leather and fully loaded for 3500$ with 148,000 miles.
Runs strong but not like a demon....( I drive a 2013 GT)..
Got it for my daughter to drive ( don’t worry she drives like a Grandma, Really..).. When I have driven it, the take off and bog on this car is killing me... I don’t drive it much but just knowing it is there gets to me... I got some 245/40/18's put on the car and did a brake burnout last week.. Nice peg leg burn out but then it catches, the car bogs again. (Yes I took off the traction control, )
I don't show any codes.. The car runs very well other than this. I have read it could be the EGR on this car and or also this type of lag or blogging is just inherent on this Generation of Mustang.
Will a CAI and factory tune wake it up like it did my 2005 and the 2013? I know it’s not going to jack up HP a whole lot. I just want the gas pedal to be more crisp.. Or on a factory car is it a total waste?
How much better is a aftermarket tune over an out of the box/ off the shelf tune on all factory car?

Just wanting to know. I don’t want to sink a whole lot in the car. Not wanting add T.B. and stuff to the car. I just want to make it more crisp.

I will state Up front .....Thank you for any comments…

Sounds like a auto to me. Autos are dogs without a tune. A tune and CAI will wake it up and make it much more responsive. Our cars respond really good to mods, but also take into fact it's a vert also. Vert+auto = slowest new edge u can get lol

You did mention this was for your daughter right?

Non the less, you might want to remove the throttle body and give it a good cleaning. When the throttle plate is covered with carbon, it causes poor fuel mileage, and throttle "lag".

It's a cheap try; a spray can of throttle body cleaner and about an hour's time may wake it up.

J-mod, 4.10s, basic bolt ons (CAI, pullies, mid-pipe, catback) and you are G2G. Also doing the plugs and rebuilding the COPs will likely help a lot too. You don't have to buy new COPs, you can buy the rebuild kits from Rockauto or Amazon which is a spring/boot kit. The electronics in the COPs rarely go bad. Plugs should be Autolite 103s. Obviously new oil and drain the trains/converter and do all new fluid.

And if you are leaving 1 skid mark doing a burnout the diff is likely on the way out. New diff will fix that or just get a termi diff and 31 spline axles if you are feeling froggy.
