Exhaust system

Hello guys
I have a question I got 04 mustang gt with straight through mufflers and no cats whatsoever I was living in Miami and life was fine
I recently moved to Massachusetts and they do inspections to the car and of course mine wouldn't pass the emissions test what should I do.

How often do you have to get inspections done--one a year? Every two years? Are there random inspections done by the state? If so, are these just visual?

You could get a good catback and midpipe system then. Swap the midpipe out at inspection time for the stock midpipe. Which catback is up to you though, you'll have to watch YouTube videos. I like the slp's and borla stinger are always super nice.. And super expensive. Lol

You'll need a shorty mid pipe with long tubes.

Long tubes are pretty hard to get in and expensive.. Are you sure you want those? I believe labor an the price of the headers is a pretty penny.

Six is right with what he said though.

Basically. Emissions suck but if you have them then not much you can do. Say goodbye to that beast sound... Cats will destroy it if you don't get a midpipe.

Technically you can be fined 10k by messing with your cats at all from stock I feel like if your going to get a catted midpipe.. Just get the stock. It'll be cheaper from a junk yard. I think that you MAY be able to pass but make sure to research it before you buy.

The fine is the only thing that stops me from getting a mid pipe. If you get a smart cop and they see no cats... Ugh oh. With the catted midpipe at least if they look they will see cats. Maybe someone else can jump in and say if it will pass or not.

I get your point. Lets say I put the stock mid pipe and a catbak will that be fine for the inspection ?

Will that give any improvements power related ?

Stock headers stock mid pipe and some mufflers/full catback system will make you pass emissions as long as nothing else hangs you up (like CEL's)

Hi-flow cats -2.5" are 11" long and can be clamped in along the midpipe. MIL eliminators are available most places. After emissions, un-clamp the cats and place a piece of pipe in there or a resonator if you so choose.

You're not annoying man we are all here to learn.

You will not like the answers to this: but you can always blame the hippies that press emissions laws.

Performance will most likely go down (I seriously doubt it will be noticeable)

Sounds will go to **** in comparison to what you have. This is why a lot of people run cat less midpipes.. But those are run at your own risk and won't pass emissions.

I don't think the headers matter much you still should pass barring other problems, but I am not 100% on that. They will bring a little performance.

Hey man I'm also from mass, which part of mass are you from? The inspection up here is yearly and not random. They will give you a sticker on your front window and the month will be on the sticker that you have to get her inspected again the following year. My personal experience with inspection is I have a 94 gt and according to mass emissions laws a car older the 15 years does not have to pass exhaust inspection so I have no cats but I also don't have any cels from having no cats. The guys that inspects my car doesn't look under my car so it passed two years in a row with no cats. You can get high flow cats and pass inspection, my friend does it with he integra with high flow cats, and you can pass with long tubes. Just gotta make sure your pulling no cels from the o2 censors.

Nice man that's only like an hour away from me, I would try like a mom and pop shop. That's where I get mine done and it's kind of a sketchy place but it works. Or my friend goes to meineke and they pass him and he just had an exhaust leak but no cel.

This is a visual of what I was trying to explain with swapping out or keeping in a 11" hi-flow cat. Seems like a reasonable solution to me.
