Bama performance tunes from AM

So I just received my bama tune from AM. First off, I've read a lot of things and seen a lot of reviews for this and it's mainly the reason I decided to go ahead and spend the 380$. All the reviews I've seen talked about " oh my cars a whole new beast" and " it really woke up my car, it's like a whole new car" and how you'll see the best gains from your bolt ons with a bama tune. I put this thing in and it said it would take about 15 mins or so to do but only took my car 4-5 mins. I can notice a very slight change in my throttle response but that's it. There was no whole new beast and it definitely didn't wake up my car. IMO 380$ is not worth it for a slight change in throttle response so I was let down by everyone saying how drastically it changes your car when, at least in my car, it only slightly changed my throttle response. I definitely regret spending almost 400$ on this. It's not like I was expecting it to magically gain 100hp or anything crazy like that but for 380$ I definitely expected more than a slight change in throttle response. I also realized I put 91 octane for the race tune and called the bama specialist to change it to 93 octane before my order was even processed and he assured me that it would get changed and even said he changed it right there on the computer and what do you know I get my tuner and the race tune is set at 91octane. So overall I'd have to say save your 380$ and invest it into something your actually going to get your money's worth.

If this is one of the only upgrades you have you won't notice as much of a difference as if you had a lot of bolt-ons. When I bought my bama tuner I already had a bunch of stuff done and was putting in gears so I needed it to correct the speedo. So instead of spending $100 to get the speedo corrected I put that money towards the tuner. Either way, I noticed a huge difference with mine and it's helped me a lot with check engine lights, reading codes, etc.
Sorry you were disappointed man.. Just know that it will help you throughout most of your future upgrades

I have a bbk cai and 78mm throttle bodie bbk x pipe flowmaster cat backs 3.73 gears so I have a few bolt ons which I would have assumed would have a bigger impact compared to stick but like I said I noticed nothing but slight throttle response, maybe I just got a bad tune or something

try loading the performance tune instead of Race.. I'm not sure why but my 93R tune from bama runs like a dog.. makes a ton of noise but i don't go anywhere. My performance tune and the Hybrid tune are the best IMO. The race tune actually ran slower 0-60 than my stock tune.

I have to say that the race tune made a massive difference in my v6, but it seemed less with my GT a few years down the road. My car runs excellent and it's not like I'm running slower now, but I do not feel the big difference like I did with my v6.

Now after that is said, I think this is because I'm fully stock. Besides flowmasters of course. My v6 had a few other things. Not many but wasn't full stock.

You have to look at this thing not only as a hp increase. This thing will help you way more than you think with codes and things. I have used it countless times without it being for uploading tunes. Maybe I can't tell the difference because my v8 hauls either way in comparison to my v6.

The bbk throttle bottle/plenum combo will be my next upgrade after all my appearance mods are done. Stomp on it, I bet there is more hidden power at the top end at least that you aren't seeing.

Hey,

I am sorry to hear this, many people, including myself, really enjoy using these tunes on our cars and I am surprised to hear this.

Many people can really feel the car pull harder through the RPM band in addition to the increased throttle response. For most people going with our tunes can translate into up to 4 tenths pick up at the strip.

Bama tunes more Mustangs than any other company in the world and for you to be this disappointed tells me something might not be 100% with the tune.

Give Bama a call when you get a chance and let us double check all the information we have on your car. Give us another chance to correct this tune and make some adjustments.

Normally a tuner is a none returnable item, however because of your loyalty and situation at hand, if those adjustments do not give you the benefits you are looking for, we will set up a return, and give you a full refund.

I hope this helps, and if you have any questions feel free to get back in touch. Once again I apologize for the disappointment, and I will see that we get it taken care of in a timely manner.

-Dan

OP,

You should be experiencing a significant increase at WOT at 2800+ rpm, also the engine should pull strongly all the way out to the rev-limiter. Note however that as others have said the gains will only be "in-your-face" (for the most part) at WOT--if you are the sort to shift at 3500 to 4000 rpm a decent tune will make little difference other than slightly better fuel economy.

One thing going against you is the 78 mm TB, it is too big for an n/a 2V and will cause charge velocity to drop off at wide open throttle. A 70 mm TB and any aftermarket upper plenum is all that's needed--read more about that here...

I have about he same mods as you but I have an cat less off rd x pipe. My race tune ran bad Andy performance tune was a lot stronger. So I call AM and they told me the race tune should be way more effective. I did some testing at the track and found out I had a faulty race tune. They sent me a new one and it was night and day diff. So I suggest you have them send you a new race tune.

My Bama tune is great and it made a very noticeable difference. I installed the Airaid CAI at the same time. I'm running the 89 Performance Tune. Better response, and it sounds phenomenal.

After talking to AM I realized I must have done something wrong, I reinstalled the tune and it works perfectly, I notice better throttle response on top of more power through the power band and it pulls harder I stand corrected and retract my first statement and opinion of the tuner. Thanks everyone who commented I appretiated your input and help

What do you think you did wrong? Uploading the tune is pretty self explanatory. Maybe I did the same thing lmao

When it appears that the tune didn't take, re-install the OEM tune and then start over. You must re-install the OEM tune FIRST.

That's from experience.

I'm bone stock and both my Bama and Steeda tunes make my GT a "whole new beast." I would never go back to stock. Even my exhaust seems to sound much more muscular (stock tune just sounds more mono-tone), but maybe it's just placebo.

Glad to hear this worked itself out! Definitely let us know how it continues to work for you. I think you will find it to be one of the best additions to your car over time as your build continues.

If you need anything else, or have any other questions, feel free to get in touch. Good luck, and enjoy the new tunes!

I wonder... how many ppl running these tunes have a wideband A/F guage to verify they are not having a rich or lean condition from the canned tunes?

I recently got a tuner from motorvationefi and the "canned" tune 91 performance woke up my pony. I await a custom tune as my 3.7 is the R&D 1st for motorvationefi.

Its kind of like putting air in your tires with no pressure gauge honestly... it might look full and pass the "kick test" but then you go get a gauge later on and find out you've been running around on 25 psi for however long. I know its not cheap but everyone running a non-factory tune should have one. I think there would be a lot more canned tunes being sent back for a redo if ppl actually had widebands.

Bama is the ***** though. No need for a wideband when they ask 19 questions about your car.

Yes you need a wideband. I see so many people running around with a narrowband. Which does absolutely nothing. Its a light show that's all

Well if you would rather buy a new motor vs say $200 then whatever floats your boat bud.

That just means the sooner I can put a 4v in it 😎

It would be disappointing if a tune from bama was ruining people motors...

A wideband O2 system is essential to tuning a modern EFI engine. Most all can report AFR in a range of 7.5:1 to 22.0:1 with 0.75 "AFR" accuracy, and from 10:1 to 16:1 with 0.5 (most) to 0.2 (the best) "AFR" accuracy.

Tuning for high performance without one is like playing Russian Roulette with three bullets in the gun...
