Well, I'd definitely start hunting around for exhaust leaks before I took the front of the engine apart. That could be the "detonation" that you're hearing also, only its an exhaust leak... Maybe?

I've heard of that.. I believe a member though he had detonstion but ended up being exhaust leak. Anyway to check tho or prolly just take it to a mechanic?

Take it to a trust worthy exhaust mechanic. Or someone you trust who is knowledgeable about your car. Or at least do the least expensive repairs first. Plus- how can you really hear an engine tap or knock with a noisy exhaust leak? Preventitive maintanance is a great instinct to have but don't let it kill your driving experience, Aye'? LOL

Where would you guys recommend putting the seafoam through? I already did a full bottle through my gas a couple tanks ago.

Black/White Smoke When Revved

Over last weekend I changed out the fuel filter and the detonation seemed a tiny bit better. I replicated the sound to my friend dad and he said that it sounds like engine noise from it "lugging" in low rpm's... He is saying that unless it gets worse he wouldn't worry about it.

So I loaded up the race tune today... On a straight away I floored it in second gear and it got after it like a mofo but the detonation/noise was definitely worse and was through the whole powerband, not just in a small area of the powerband.

After that I smelled a burnt smell inside the car, and it wasn't my tires. Any ideas? Could that just be burning up the carbon deposits or could it be me stressing the inside of my engine out way too much?

you have to fix your exhaust leaks from the motor to the O2 sensors, drive 30 miles, then see what happens. Did you replace the spark plugs?

We ran some tests on it and stuck our head up there to determine it's not a exhaust leak.

Pulled some plugs and they were brand new titanium plugs.

oh.. you go I like what your Dad said. Dont worry about it. If its something bad, eventually you'll find the problem... (ughh) On a better note... It could go another 100,000 miles the way it is..

When I'm full throttle in my car, I get that burned fuel smell also.

Titanium?
They should be platinum.
What plugs were these, Exactly?

I wasn't sure if platinum or titanium. They was silver, and obviously not copper. Looked brand new almost so we just popped them back in.

It doesn't smell like what I would think burnt gas smells like but it's definitely bunt something.

Who is the manufacturer of the plugs and what part number are they. Remember, one of the causes of detonation can be spark plugs that are the wrong heat range for the engine. Lets try to eliminate the spark plugs as being a potential cause... Brand of plugs and part # please...

My car only runs good on the 93 tune. I got a brass negative battery terminal yesterday. Re-cut and spliced the ground cable and wires. It runs even smoother Every little bit helps. (brass resists corrosion too) Ill put brass on the Positive cable next week. Once a week I go over something. Its a great feeling !
