My car is totally stock and I want a exhaust that sounds good but I wanna still be able to talk to the person next to me with the top down or up ... Should I just change mufflers. Also what is a good intake should I put cold air or a short pipe and what brand sounds the best . Does anyone know where I can get a new top with glass and rear defroster.

Latemodel resto, American muscle, Cj pony parts for the top, I'd go catted midpipe with flowmasters or magnaflow

I have Flow Master Original 40 Series Mufflers with stock set-up, I love them, and so does anyone who rides with me. It's a good "quiet" sound at idle or low RPM (very much able to talk across cars or someone riding with me), but when I get it to downshift everyone loves it (it's more of a classic sound rather than a newer car). They don't expect that sound from my normal idle/low RPM cruising. I have a coupe, but it shouldn't make that big of a difference.
Here's a sound clip from some videos I still have: https://plus.google.com/photos/11186...73146271860050
the outside video is a little raspy, but you can still hear the rythm

I got my top at late model restoration along with the install DVD. It was very difficult to install the top myself but not impossible. I recommend buying the DVD before buying the replacement top or glass to get an idea of what your up against. I also got my cold air intake off americanmuscle.com, it's a Sr performance intake and so far it has been exceeding my expectations. It's filter is high quality and it took 10 minutes to install. As for the exhaust I have a bbk x pipe with no cats at flowmaster super 40's. I don't like the flowmasters simply because of there terrible terrible drone. Now I never had cats with the flowmasters so I don't know if there as bad with the stock midpipe but without cats they give you a headache on the highway. I am actually going to gut them out this summer and clamp on some borla xs pros. Hope this helps out a little.

For the sound, i did straight pipe on my gt, some people dont like it cause its "too loud", others think its great. I reccomend it, its affordable (got it done for $70) and changes your car drastically. I have a convertible too, but on idle it isnt disturbing to talk to, but once accelerating it is.

Mine were on it when I bought it, I just added 3"x18" tips (which honestly does very little to make it louder, but it is noticeable), but AmericanMuscle sells the set for $155 ($77.50 individually). They are normally the cheapest. Free shipping AND price match, so anyway that's where I shop.

I recommend browsing around more and listening to more sound clips (after all everyone has a different preference) please don't stop here. I also thought about replacing two of my cats with high-flows, just something to think about. My friend removed all 6 from his '98 and made a HUGE difference in loudness (Ours come with only four), but then you have to worry about emissions if you remove them.

I have all BBK products in my Mustang! I like the bling it gives under the hood and it sounds really good when you give it gas! Click image for larger version
