Confusion!!

Hey guys so I'm looking to get an aluminum driveshaft on am or late model for my 02 gt v8. To my understanding my yr has 28 spline driveshaft stock but when I look on those sites it says the 28 spline driveshaft is for v6. So do I need to upgrade my axles and diff just to get a new driveshaft?? Or was I wrong and the 31 spline is stock?? Heeeeeelp!!

You are confusing the splines on the axels with splines on the input shaft. Axel splines have nothing to do with drive shaft. Input shaft splines do though

Ok still confused...does my car have 28 spline on the input shaft or 31? N I thought they all had to be the same? So I could throw in a 31 spline driveshaft yet my axles could be 28 spline??

This is the one you need. God forbid it doesn't work then just swap the yoke from the factory driveshaft to the aluminum. Axle splines have nothing to do with the driveshaft because the splined part of the driveshaft slides into the back of the transmission and the splines part of the axles slides into the differential itself.

Someone on here made this mistake awhile back buying a 28 spline DS because they had 28 spline axles. But yes you can just pull the snap rings out of the u-joints and swap the input shafts if you mess it up, everything else is the same.

The T-5 transmissions in the 5.0 pushrods are 28 spline output as well as the old Tremec 3550s. The 96-04 Modulars use either a T-45 or a T-3650 which both are 31 spline. Unless you have a 03/04 Cobra with the T-56, then you are 27 spline GM style.
