PATS????

I've got a 2000 GT that's been stored all winter. I went to start it the other day and the battery was dead. I charged the battery and tried to start it again, but it would only crank and never fire. I checked and had no fuel pressure at the fuel rail, so I began to check the fuel pump. The fuses were good. I unplugged the connection for the pump and was checking for voltage to the pump and the electric fan engaged, the car started dinging, the odometer readout read -----, and the theft light started flashing. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do next. Is this a PATS issue? Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing PATS does is stop the fuel pump. The only way I know to get around Pats is a tune. If you want to diagnose it you must have 2 keys. If you have 2 keys you can follow my old thread PATS for dummies translation

I got this from the dealership archives.

Pats is also the security system. Do you have a tune on the car?

Pats will shut off your fuel and turn on your theft light I've had mine do this and went into the computer and turned pats off since my uncle is engineer at ford he did it for me but pats might not recognize your key because they are paired

I don't have a tune in the car. I've tried both sets of keys that I have and it didn't make a difference.

So how can we avoid this? Is letting your car sit all winter the cause of it? I know a lot of vehicles don't take well to sitting still for too long, but I don't know if it applies to efi cars.

I'm not sure what caused the problem. I suspect age and sitting all winter. I only drive the car in the warm months, so I plan to disconnect the battery when I park it this year.

I would think that leavin the battery dc'd would cause a prob like this if anything, why not just get a battery tender and leave it hookd up when u park it for the winter?
