automatic to manual?

Hi, I have 03 gt with 4 speed automatic, and I was thinking about changing to manual. Down the street we have junk yard and they got 04 gt 5 speed with 80,000 miles on and I was thinking about changing transmission. What u guys think? And why manual are faster then automatic? Thx

Auto transmissions have a greater loss of power than manual one because autos send torque by a hydraulic system and manuals are a physical mechanical transfer.

If you are looking to go faster in a straight line stick with your auto, j-mod your transmission and throw a good aftermarket stall converter in it and work on suspension. An auto is going to launch harder, shift faster and never miss a shift.

If you just prefer a 5 speed then swapping just involved getting all the parts you need and just doing the swap.

I have dyno shop put tunes in for shifting points is that same thing has j-mod? If not, how much does cost? And is this be good http://m.americanmuscle.com/tciauto-convertor-9604.html
The reason I want to go manual is car makes more hp and just cuz I have auto I loss little of that power and I want to bring back that power lol

Look up the J-mod on youtube, it involves pulling the valve body and drilling out certain holes in the separator plates to allow more fluid flow and removing a few things to firm up the shifts.

Don't buy a converter from AM... Get one from PI, DirtyDog or Freakshow. Freakshow is a great budget option, he is located in Abeleine, TX. His converters are also supposed to be as good as the more expensive ones like PI.

Because the TCI converter shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as PI etc... Except for a sentence telling you that they shouldn't.

Manuals are not necessarily faster after '99 (maybe '95, but I know things picked up after the computer upgrade). It is true that manuals get more power to the wheels, but once you put a tune on one and compare manual with tune vs auto with tune, the auto will be (slightly) quicker (in a straight line at least) because of the more efficient and consistent shifts.

Track racing may be a different matter, but I've never done it (most people don't.) It would make since that a manual would be faster on the track because of the more precise up and downshifting.

So, if you like manual tranny better, get a manual, if not, stick with auto. Don't change your transmission just for performance, because it is pointless. From what I hear, it's not worth the time or money to do the swap anyway.

That's what I always tell ppl. If you are going to be going to the 1/4 a lot, try to find a clean 04 Automatic since the 04 GT/Mach were the only autos to get the 4r75w vs the 4r70w. Bolt ons/suspension/converter/j-mod/tune and you are running mid 12s on the stock PI motor.

Now if you are going to set the car up for road racing, manual no question.

If you are street driving it its all personal preference. I personally like the FULL control you get with the clutch vs even a manual valve body for street driving but there is nothing, NOTHING like a fully spooled up hard launch in a prepped automatic car setup for straight line racing.

I've spent some time in TX from my time in basic to tech school to random trips. Tech school was in Wichita Smalls but I don't let that place influence my feeling on the state. I keep telling my wife I'm going to put in for orders to be a TI (drill sergeant) down at Lackland and buy a house in Round Rock and she keeps pushing back. Time to find a new wife? lol.

Its a typical Podunk area that is only supported because there is a military installation right there. I think there were a few bad clubs/stripclubs, a dirt mall and motels where new airmen/soliders/sailors take each other to screw on the weekends.
