Old School Sound

I hate to bring up another exhaust thread but I was wondering what would be a good set up exhaust wise to achieve the old school muscle car "rumble"? Everything I hear or see doesn't seem to come close to that sound. Is there a way to get that grumble tone from the 4.6L? I'm still trying to learn about mustang exhausts with the h/x pipes etc. so please bare with me. Thanks in advance for your input!

To get that choppy rumble you are going to need aftermarket cams no matter what exhaust you run. However, to get close you'll want an offroad pipe and your choice of muffler. It will be a smooth sounding idle but it'll be deep and throaty.

Get some sort of cams, an off-road H pipe. And flowmasters cat back. The flowmasters tend to sound very much like old muscle cars

Yea as cheap and as much as they drone. Flowmaster does seem to sound the most like old school Muscle cars....
O/R H pipe with aftermarket cams and the Super 10 mufflers is what I would go with.

SLP sounds damn good on a LSX but I honestly think it is a bunch of noise on a modular. Magnaflows sound great on a modular.

Only way you're going to get the lopey idle that old muscle cars have is aftermarket cams. Or a ghost cam tune, but I don't think you can find those around anywhere.

So I enjoy the sound of a cammed motor, however I can't afford them yet. What's y'all's opinions on the flowmaster super 10 mufflers?

I don't mind them. Flowmasters drone though. 10's are a good but louder than any of flows I've heard.. I wish I woulda went that route or slp's

Not sure I don't have them. I think I have the 40's and I get drone at 2k. Oddly enough when highway driving I never get that constant drone that people talk about.

I have super 10's. There is some drone but it's honestly not that bad. I drive my car about 5 times a week and everyday on the highway and city. I don't have an off road mid pipe though, that may affect the drone level...

I had 40s with an offroad pipe and dumps on my 91GT and I would hear ringing after a drive anymore than 15-20 minutes on the highway. I LOVED my Dynomax Ultras though. Mild at idle, good tone off idle but not too loud, would not/did not ever arouse any suspicions going by cops even with an offroad pipe and headers but when you punched it OMG those things would SCREAM. Pretty much like a throatier stock muffler till 3k RPM and then all hell would break loose.
