Hard times for the stang...

Hey guys

So the last few weeks for my car have been rough, partially my fault too.. Last week one of the cats on my x pipe started rattling really bad so decided to swap back to the stock h pipe until i bought an offroad x.

When pulling the x pipe off, i was removing the passenger side manifold bolts when my wrench tapped the starter and it made a spark sound. It was then that i realized I totally forgot to disconnect the battery..(yes I'm a dumbass, I know). I didn't think much of it at first and finished swapping the pipes.

So after everything was done i went to start the car and it just kept cranking. The car just cranks and cranks but doesn't even begin to turn over. The battery light is on and the theft light is flashing really fast when the key is engaged and when the car is cranking. Ive tried a bunch of stuff so far and nothings worked...

My mechanic says he has no idea what the problem is and that its not the starter and that its a computer/electrical issue, so I'm at a loss. Could this be a PATS issue? My car has the bama race tune on right now too btw and ive read that a tuner could disable PATS.

Any thoughts?

I assume you have since then disconnected the battery, waited, drank a beer, waited, then reconnected?

Sounds like a pats issue. I'd get it shut off and see what jappens. Do you have a spare key you could try?

I don't think its the alternator unless it got fried somehow from my wrench hitting the starter, ill check it anyways though. I do have a spare key, my key was in the ignition when it happened, but it wasn't in the on position. Maybe the spark screwed the up how pats recognizes that key?

If you haven't already, check the high current (under hood) fuses. Good possibility. Good luck!

My mechanic and i checked the fuses, they're all good except the ecm fuse but when we replace it with a new one, it keeps blowing. I have no idea now...

Try another ecm if it keeps blowing fuses. Sounds internally shorted.

Would an ecm reflash help the problem?

I personally do not thinks so. Especially if it blowing fuses. That is a tell-tale sign something is shorted to ground. Cannot reflash if its shorted. I could be wrong but i don't think so.

Until you have to get PATS reprogrammed... or just buy a tuner and have it turned off.

I already contacted bama and they're sending me updated tunes with pats turned off. But I tried returning the car back to stock and the tuner gives me trouble code 1028 and says the computer is not connected...fml
