3rd Gear Grind !! Help plz!!

I have a 1998 mustang gt that grinds on 3rd ONLY when I'm racing or simply just shifting from 2nd to 3rd very rapidly ?? And NO it's not the driver because I MAKE SURE that the clutch is fully in! Plz help !!

Synchro is probably worn out

(678) 429-3089 call this number it's Stan Peace from Pro-ForcePerformance transmissions he sells synchro assembly kits and just the synchros them selves. I've used him many times for my tranny and his parts are good quality. Just tell him your problem and he will tell you everything you will need to order and he'll send the parts out to you.. he's a really nice guy.

You need to at least take the tranny out yourself and give it to a shop or get together with a friend who knows how to fix the synchro and let him teach you how to fix it like I did for about 300$.. Be smart and try to save money. Shops quoted me about 850$ in labor to drop the car off and them fix it.. You will need a new clutch, and shift for pads, you can get either just the synchro and or the whole synchro hub assembly. I think parts costed about 360$ most of that money was the Valero clutch..

Mine does the same thing into 2nd. Bad syncrho assembly and the others ones are probably on the way out too at this point. They upgraded them with carbon fiber blocker rings in 1999 but the 96-98s are notoriously problematic. I'm just replacing mine with a 3650, its in my garage I just need to find a weekend to get it on a lift and do it.

So long story short, you need a rebuild or a new trans. Not what you want to hear I'm sure but welcome to owning a 16 yr old car. The good news is that you can probably shift smoothly and fine if you are not trying to quick shift, I know I can.
