TR3650 fluid change

Okay so I just unscrewed my fill plug to my Tr3650 trans and quite a bit of fluid came out of the fill hole. Ive ready quite a few different things amount the changing of the fluid for this trans and how much should go in, any where from 3.1L to like 3.7 and some have said 3/4 inch below the fill plug but need a good answer because even the owners manual doesn't say exactly. My question is where these over filled from the factory or should I just take the shifter off and put a little more in over the fill plug?

Much appreciated The Chech!

They were over filled from the factory. The correct amount is 3.2 quarts.

Factory fill WAS 3.8 quarts. Note I said WAS. There was a TSB released bringing it down to 3.2 quarts because there were windage issues with that much fluid in there. I recommend you use Pennzoil Synchromesh. The 3650 LOVES Syncrho and it makes a 3650 as smooth as a 3650 is capable of being provided nothing in the trans is goobered up.

Glad I bought two pumps today! one broke and spilled about half a quart. None the less its got less then 3.8 in it now and I went with Mobil 1 Synth ATF per the manual. Have to say though scared the heck out of me when quite a bit of fluid came out of the fill hole searched all over second guessing myself it said fill next to it. And I had read before to be careful about certain trans fluids because of sulfur in it and it causing certain things to happen.

You don't want it spilling out of the fill hole, if it is, you overfilled.

Also, don't fill using a pump, pull the shifter and just pour it in through there. Much more accurate and easy to do it. You want 3 quarts and then literally be anal retentive about ONLY doing .2 more because if you overfill you can have issues as Ford found out. Which is why it is 3.2 quarts now.

It was in the beginning when I first opened it up releasing the fluid from the factory that it spilled out from the fill hole.

Also, while your at it, if I was you I'd just get a Cobra Bob shifter gasket. Cost is cheap like $20 I think, it really eliminated a lot of the noise I was getting from the shifter, plus it makes things easier if/when you pull the shifter again

Then you have no idea how much fluid is in there and could be overfilled at 3.5 or 3.6 qts. This can still cause windage issues.

Yep, the Cobrabob gaskets are great. Just make sure you get the ACTUAL Cobrabob gaskets and not the copies that AM/LRS etc... sell. They are not the same.
