Okay.. so does your engine tick?
tick tick tick tick..
I seen in a thread on here someone that was having this issue that we all know mustangs are known for has claimed that the culprit was
the Purge Control Valve Solenoid?
I googled it.. checked other forums and youtube and cant find anything at all regarding this.
However the individual did post a video of the before ticking and as I already said claims replacing this part fixed the issue.
Does anyone know anything about this? Because I clearly don't haha and it has caught my attention.
I understand that the cam phasers on the 3V engines can start making a ticking sound as they wear out.
On our cars, I'm convinced, after spending a few hours with an engine builder yesterday, that the noise we are hearing, aside from any injector noise, is the timing chains and tensioners.
well apparently the said part completely eliminated the tick and that's what has me wondering if that's even possible. I have no experience with this part and really don't understand how it could make the " tick "
Well, since it is a solenoid it can potentially make a ticking noise... or maybe a clicking noise. Lol.
It is on the outside of the engine so should be relatively easy to diagnose if that is the source of the noise.
I believe that there would be a check engine light associated with the failure of that valve though...
Purge Control Valve Solenoid. How!? I have no clue. But it was dang sure the solution to that annoying obnoxious noise. Thanks to weeks of Google and YouTube videos I finally ran across a guy with the same problem. Thought for sure it was his injectors, even did the same as me with the stethoscope and still swore the noise was coming from there. But. A friend pointed the solution out to him and it fixed it. And now it has fixed mine as well. All I can think of is that maybe the noise was transferring from the valve to the injectors somehow through the vacuum hoses? Idk. Problem solved though. Lol.
The tick in my 05 3v was this roller rocker or "cam follower." The roller wheel in there is really loose and has a lot of play. The lifter or "lash adjuster" was fine but this follower was bad and eventually would have wiped out the cam lobe. You can replace either part very easily without removing the cam or chain. Hope this info helps!
oh I don't loose sleep over it haha mine is minimal and I know they are known for it.. However she posted a before video witch sounded pretty bad and then claims this stopped the ticking all together. Made me wonder if this is maybe what we are all hearing? I am not going to rush out and buy a new one but figured if anyone has any experience with this to convince me.. then I would.. why not
