I was headed to pick up my temperature sender and as I'm pulling into the parking space in the parking lot.....

Driver side ball joint just fell apart. I'm starting to wonder why I love these cars so much. There's ALWAYS something wrong. Ugh! Talk about "low ballin'" haha.

If you were driving your car to the point the ball joint catastrophically failed like that, I fear for the preventative maintenence program you're on. Yikes.

Dude I just bought this car a month ago. He's my project car. After getting him back to tip top shape I'll probably be able to pass an ASE certification test with a breeze. Haha.

I'll post a video sometime this weekend of the "no more" tick though. I've got my hands full this weekend though. I've got to change out the other ball joint because those bushings are actually dry rotted.

Say hello to the reason why Grimace face planted the concrete. Oh well. He needed a new paint job anyway, right? Haha.
They did lend me the press for the joint though. Took 45 minute just to get the remains of the old one out though. This ended up being more frustration than trying to align the driveshaft by myself with two wheeled jacks :p

Luckily O'Reily's lends tools. They kept telling me, we close at 9. I'm just like well come freaking torque this bolt out and press these pieces out then fools. Gah. I'm 110 lbs, it took everything I had and then some to get that rusted on bolt off. Don't rush me. Haha. I seriously thought the spring was gonna pop and hit me in the face because I had two hands on the wrench and two feet pushing against the car trying my little heart out for that one bolt. Got it though. Finally. Luckily I'm kinda cute so the guys stayed a little late and helped me finish. They probably only helped because they wanted to go home though.

Glad you got it resolved. I remember a few years ago, the shop I was at got a call that an Impala was coming in for the ball joints popping out on the owner all the time. The car shows up and its one of those donks......lol

I told the guy the problem wasn't the car, it was him for putting 33" rims on it

He wouldn't have that issue if he was running 36".

Hey, who the hell cares what you look like? You probably saved $hundreds in labor not to mention you make 90% of the population look bad in regards to automotive maintenance regardless. I can't even get my wife to CLEAN her damn car out much less even know how the hell to even pop the hood lol.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know the first thing about what I'm doing, what to look for, what causes what, what goes where, and what does what. Google. And you guys. That's been my source for fixing him lol. And trust me, it hasn't been easy for me either. Embarrassing sometimes even. Having to call a friend and be like "Hey, uhhhhh, can you come torque this bolt?" I want to learn though. Because I'm picky about who touches my stuff. I won't even let friends touch my guitars. Plus, this car deserves a lot of TLC. You should see what kind of mechanic owned him before. I'm going to have to rewire the entire car under the hood. It's bad. And u just want to make sure it's done right. No shortcuts. I've spent more money on him than what he's worth, I know that. But the bond that I'll have with this car and he accomplishment that I will feel in the long run is worth the thousands I'm about to sink into it. Plus. I'm proving my boyfriend wrong in the process. That's priceless. Lol.

Suggestion for any sort of wheel maintenance. Go to Harbor freight and get the longest breaker bar you can get. My 1/2" drive breaker bar I got from there was like $11 and its been worth its weight in gold. Even at 100lbs soaking wet one should be able to break loose pretty much anything with a big breaker bar.

I also understand about forming a bond with a car and all but I will also say there is a point where you just have to be like... "ok I can get this same car as mine except nice and with some nice mods and for less money". But you also can't put a price on some things so there's that too.

And yeah, ask away as far as any questions. I'm not a wizard at modulars (yet) but I'm great with the fox4/SN95 chassis and transmissions/exhaust/interiors etc... I will say that if one ball joint **** the bed then the other side is close. At the age the SN95s are at consider the entire suspension shot if original.

edit: Although as far as wiring... I would sell a car that is a wiring nightmare before I even tried to mess with it.

Found that out the hard way. But the one that didn't fail and explode was more of a pain to remove than the one that exploded and had to remove in pieces.

I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming she was at a red light and shot off a post in a few seconds whilst waiting for said red light to change to green.

Cute maybe, hot not hardly...although it's quite freakin hot today, and I'm moving so I AM a bit on the sweaty side so yeah, I'm hot today haha. I'm average. Nothing special.

But I can text without looking. Obviously had to read the novels Scotty was posting. You could've caused me to wreck. Haha. Kidding. I'm just back and forth between the old place and the new place.

But, we can all see that not one of those statements are true lol. I certainly dot stand out in a crowd. Plus I'm only 4'11", you can't see me anyway.

I guess now would be a good time for the pi swap eh? Come to find out he has two different heads. One pi, one NPI. How does that work? Ghetto rigging mechanics. The pi came from a 99 apparently. So. Now. The big question. Because I've tried searching the web, and I'm lost. Where can I get a pi conversion kit? Only one I found was on eBay and it won't fit my car because it's from an 01.

Where in the hell did you get this car from? I hope you didnt pay much for it, cuz it sounds like a disaster, not to mention that it is an accident waiting to happen.

I surely wouldnt be texting and driving in a car like that. Sounds like you need every ounce of brain power concentrated on operating it in case it decides to explode while you are in traffic.

Saved him from a shortcut McGee mechanic in Florida. And trust me, I didn't pay much for him. I knew there would be tweaks and twerks but I didn't realize there were gonna be two completely different heads on it lol. 0 ball joints. And pitted cams. The dangerous parts have been taken care of already. All that's left now is the internals of the mechanics itself. Could be disastrous yes but that's why I'm driving an old beater of a Cougar for the time being while Grimace is being spoiled.

All of the 2V PI heads will fit on your car.
The benefit of getting the latest updated heads is they fixed the spark plug threads so that they aren't so prone to blowing out the spark plugs.
All that you need as a "kit" are two complete PI heads and a PI intake manifold. AM has them and so does Modular Mustang Racing...

American Muscle is expensive! Lol. I just ordered a complete PI swap kit for $850 which includes everything gaskets, bolts, camshafts, valve covers, intake, everything from MPS Salvage in Winder, GA. I've been hearing good reviews about them from a few people around here. Grimace is currently being transported to Albany at the moment, hopefully he shall return to me some time next week. I was hoping to have him back by this weekend for our Florida cruise, but it looks like I'll be stuck in the passenger seat of the vette this time.

Sounds good, just beware used PI intakes especially if you get one from a 99/00 car. The 99/00 ones have plastic coolant crossovers that WILL crack eventually. 01-04 units have a metal crossover but they have issues with the plastic flange under the tstat housing warping and leaking too. This is why I always recommend buying a brand new PI intake for $215 and not having to do a replacement later when your used one starts pissing coolant everywhere.

And no, AM is not expensive, NEW **** is expensive lol. And actually $215 for a brand new intake that flows like the PI intake does is damn good, much better than $600 for a junk chinamen copy Typhoon intake.

For heads... yeah you can do those used usually because PI heads were on every other motor Ford produced from 1999-2004. Just gotta watch when you do plug changes on most of them because until 2004 the spark plug threads in the head were only 4 threads. This is fine... IF you use a torque wrench. Morons doing "finger tight and 1/4 turn" blow them out left and right.
