I had a sound like the one you were describing but I could get mine to make it when I was parked. I was able to get under there and feel the rack and pinion while someone turned it for me and I could feel it popping and making noise. I did some research and changed the bushings with some polyurethane ones and it's never done it again. How many miles do you have on it?

You can buy new bushings for $12.99 at O'Reilly's. You come out better if you just invest the extra $3 for the entire ball joint though.

Entire ball joint?? He doesn't need a need a ball joint. I bought the polyurethane ones on AM. They were like 16.99 I think.
