Flowmasters a bad muffler?

Was going to swap my 40s for super 44 because I noticed it has holes in them. Looked up Flowmasters review on a few forums and saw that it makes your car feel slower? I wouldn't know because all my vehicles had Flowmasters on them.

You won't feel any difference.

Flowmasters are notorious about rusting out.. But I personally don't think they are that bad. I like the sound.

You won't notice a difference in power from a muffler until supercharged making a ton of power

Lol, anyone who says going from one flowmaster to another will make the car slower is an idiot, don't listen to ppl like that.

I personally think they are bad muffler because they drone like a mother on the highway. I like to call them "dronemasters".

I agree with Scotty, I think that it is definitely worth spending the extra money to get a magnaflow system that is a much better quality

Also what I've heard, at least for chamber mufflers (and of course weight is always a factor).

They're all within a few hp of each other until the 500hp mark or so. That's when chambered mufflers start to restrict a little more and you want to be running a straight through design. IMHO, just get a good straight through anyway. They are throatier, you can often get them in stainless for the same price as flows (Dynomax Ultras), they scream louder at WOT and they won't attract the sound police/piss of your neighbors at idle or off idle.

It all comes down to personal preference. My buddy has gone thru 3 flowmaster 40's on his 01 GT since he got it in 2008. Two on the driver's side and one on the passenger side.

He has no immediate intentions of swapping them out. He likes the sound and doesn't care if he has to replace one every few years.

Flow 40's came on my Mach 1 with divorced duals and are pretty loud. Definitely a neighbor piss-er-off-er. I will probably swap the mufflers out for Borlas or Magnaflows eventually, so I can piss even more people off

I think they get a bad rap mainly because almost every bolt on 2v GT is running them along with every v6 with an h-pipe, and the whole rusting out thing never helps either.

There not a bad muffler at all. Many people enjoy the sound. I prefer a straight thru design myself. I have magnapacks and their stainless steel, they are a little more money but not too much more at all. Get what you like and don't believe that hp garbage, if there was a very small difference you wouldn't be able to tell at all.

+1 on the bad rep part

I have flows.. I don't get any drone when on the highway. I really don't get much drone at all. I had some when they were brand new but for the most part that is gone now. Guess they "broke in?"

Mine really don't drone that much either. A little bit in 2nd and 3rd around 2k, but on the highway and in low rpms it's pretty crisp..idk maybe it's the 4v awesomeness

My old 91GT had:

Shorty headers
Offroax H
Flowmaster 40s

I wanted to rip my ears off after a long drive on the highway. And before someone says "you just don't know what loud is", I work around operating jet engines and am well versed in how loud **** can get lol.

That was the last vehicle I owned that had flows.

I can't complain about my flowmasters I got the American thunder cat back and am happy with it it does drown a little around 2000 in the highway but that doesn't happen to often lol but I will say with stock mid pipe it was way to quiet for me nothing a O/R mid pipe couldn't fix

I just put new Super 44's on last week. They do drone a bit but that's at about 75-80 on the highway.

Man I would do SLP 1's. They pick up sound at 2k rpms. They sound amazing even with the stock mid pipe. Flowmasters are okay..but I mean they drone bad. 10's are my favorites in the flowmaster category

Best sounding 2v I've ever heard had flowmasters. Not sure what series, but I think most of the hate comes from the fact that it is a berry common muffler.

I have imco mufflers and they sound good to me. Can't really go wrong on a mod motor imo

Well they do sound good. But you'll also have a headache after riding inside a mustang that had them due to all the drone. I've been there.

Whimp.... I daily my Mustang with Flowmasters, and a super stiff suspension. It bounces, creaks and drones like a mofo. But as soon as i step on it, or push it through a corner i forget about all of that.

Got more compliments on my exhaust today from a relative who i haven't seen in 5 years (he is also a car guy). Flowmaster 44s.

It's all about personal preference.

It's like asking about lowering springs..

K man. I'd rather have an exhaust system I can enjoy inside of the car than to have my passenger complain that they can't hold a conversation because it's too loud inside and their heads hurt. Hence the reason I went borla.

Had a 2010 4.6 that had the super 10s w shorty headers. Drone was a *****. But it sounded really good. Really smooth not crackly which is why I liked them. But I dealt with the drone because I didn't wanna waste more money on exhaust. But in the coyote. I did buy macs and didn't know they droned as bad as the flows. So I sold them to a friend and did research which led me to borla lol. I love them. Even if they are super loud. Not one bit of resonance inside the cab.

They do have an amazing sound on the 4.6. I'm just not a fan of them on the 5.0. Haven't ridden in one though so idk about how it is inside the cabin these. Just going off past experiences I've had.

Let's see
My 03 gt - SLP LM1's
03 cobra - magnaflow then 40 series
08 427r - roush, 40 series, slp lm1's
06 f150 - 2v 4.6 had 40 series also.

All were 4.6s obviously. Flowmaster sounds the best on the 4.6s imo.

I assumed that, and I'm not trying to start an e-war lol..I'm just saying...

You obviously liked them on the 4.6 so keep it at that.

Again, no hate here, I have no experience with the coyote but how a flowmasters sounds on that engine is irrelevant.
