Engine clatter.

When we pat the gas we hear a clatter. What could that be?

Where does the clatter sound like its coming from? Top end or bottom? Bottom end could be a rod knocking or top end could be a busted ignition coil like mine had which was because it shot my plug out of the head.

Engine clatter.

Detonation. Welcome to the club.. Throw parts at it or just drive it til it dies like I am lmao. Mines only when I lug the engine/floor it though. If I take my time and get up to speed slowly, it doesn't "clatter" or "detonate"

More than likely isn't a rod knock... You can tell when something serious like that is going on.

I use shell, it seems a little better than Walmart gas. My detonation is mainly only around 2-3k rpms though. It's really weird. I don't have the money to just throw at it though and hope it sticks.

Yes it sounds like I'm running to low octane gas. But the manual says 87 and the Bama tune is for 87. It's a auto and the only time it does it is in overdrive at low speed and I go to speed up right before it drops down a gear. It's not a rod it's that valve clattering sound

The Bama tune explains it. Nothing against Bama, they're no worse than any of them.
That's what a tune does, it puts your engine at it's limit so it performs better. Well, they missed by a little with your engine. It's impossible to be perfect when they don't, physically, have the car there to tune.
Start taking (retarding) one degree of timing out of their tune until the "pinging" goes away.

I was not aware you could do that. Where can I find info to do that with the tuner?

Hopefully it doesn't still clatter when on stock tune. IMO I would get bama themselves to remake the tune. Also get them to datalog it

See if you can find anything in the instructions for your tuner.
If not, call Bama.

Haven't tried it on the stock tune. Only on the street and the performance tunes. Both those are for 87 octane. Race is for 91, and 93 is what's available in my area. Probaby tells my age but I haven't even tried; the race tune.

Load the stock tune. If the clatter stops, it's the tune. If not then it's a underlying problem.

No offense, but you showed your age when you called it clatter

Let us know. My issue of detonation is underlying which is frustrating. Even on stock tune mine does it ... But my 87 tune does it like 1/8th as bad as the 93 race tune. I'm assuming it's because they are playing too close to the edge, when the edge is breaking and cracking lol. So it's really bad on the race.

Just got back from driving on the stock tune. Did not notice the detonation. Half way through the drive I stop'ed and returned to the performance tune and noticed it again. will call Bama tomorrow.

Yeah. They'll get you fixed up. Probably pull out some timing and add a bit of fuel.

By the way, Dave, how was the fuel mileage with that tune?

On the street tune Sallie get's around 20.5 mpg. That's not city or Hwy, but combined. Haven't been on a Hwy trip to gauge the mpg. On the performance tune if I remember right she got about 19 or so. But it was the first of the year when I checked that. Just have put her back on that tune to see how it effected the problem. Planing on leaving the performance tune on for a wile to see how we like it. Not a everyday driver so these things take a wile. Sallie was my wife's idea. Although I kind of like it.

just spoke to Ryan at Bama Performance. Very courteous, very friendly and professional guy. He's going to touch up my street tune to see if that fixes the problem, if it does will apply the fix to the other tunes. Will let you know if it works. Said he could probably get it sent out tomorrow.

Haven't forgot about y, but instead of getting a new street tune on 87 octane, they sent a race tune for 91 octane. Will have to wait for the next fill up to see if it's better.

Mine made some noise like trying to accelerate in 5th but after I changed out spark plugs and ignition coils all went away and felt much snappier

Got the new tune downloaded and still have the pinging. Car has 62000 miles and had 58000 when I bought it, don't know when last time plugs were changed. so I changed then and still the ping. Going to call AM back for another less aggressive tune if see if that works.

Before I bother the bama people I want to make sure It's not something on my end. I've changed plugs, changed oil and filter, belt. cleaned maf, added lucas oil additive. Only thing left that I can think of in the fuel filter and will pick that up tomorrow. If that does not work then I'll call bama back and talk to them.

It will be interesting to see if that helps or not. I have a suspicion that something must have made you guys cars start to run a little lean. A fuel delivery problem or a vacuum leak possibly...
