Red face What size tires should I buy?

Hey Guys,

I have a 2000 Mustang GT Convert and I am in need of new rear tires. My current set up is as follows:

Front wheel - 18x9
Front Tire - 245/40/18

Rear wheel - 18x10
Rear Tire - 275/35/18

I am going to try to not make this complicated but here it goes. I do not like the fact that the side walls on my front tires are bigger then the rear. With that said I would like to find rear tires that are a size wider and the equivalent side wall height as my front tires. Down the road I will be going down to 35s in the front but for now I am just looking for rear tires.

What would be a good tire size for my current setup? Please feel free to post all kinds of options, pictures and even whole staggered setups.

If you want matching side walls then step up to a 275/40R18

A 315 on your car would be a waste of money. Unless you are putting down some serious power you don't need that. Trim the sidewall fat on the fronts or beef up the rear sidewall. A 275 in the rear is a great tire for what you have.

I agree, 315 is a size to big and more expensive. I was thinking at most 295. I want to stay between 285 and 295 depending on which aspect ratio will give me a bigger side wall in for the rear.

What tires do you currently have because 245/40 18 275/35/18 should look proper together

Something is wonky with your tires because a 245/40/18 and a 275/35/18 have the exact same diameter and therefore will have the same sidewalls. You sure those sizes are what you have?

Go on tirerack and just get a staggered setup that has a matching overall tire diameter or really close, like within .1 or .2". If the diameters are the same and the rim opening is the same then the sidewall height will be the same too.

edit: Also the stock 25.7" tire diameter for a 94-04 car looks like a damn roller skate wheel. I suggest going up a sidewall size on the front and rear or even two out back. I run a 235/45/18 up front on a 18x8 and a 275/40/18 out back on a 18x10. As you can see I have room to go up a full extra inch probably because that's only = .5" tighter to the wheel well.

There is also no reason to go bigger than a 275 or 285 on a 10" wide rim. My 275s bulge out just very slightly which is optimal.
