Ac Problems

So since i have purchased my 98 GT i have been going through the car and fixing all minor Issues. My biggest issue is when i bought the car the guy told me the a/c did not work. I decided one day to just turn it on while i was driving, amazingly enough it blew cold as ice, only issue is when i stop at a light or am just idling it blows hot. I have a little experience with a/c but to me this is weird. When idling the compressor does come on and cycle, blows air but is hot. As soon as i accelerate it blows cold. Any ideas?

I would check two things.
1. Make sure that the radiator cooling fan comes on when when you turn the AC on. Air needs to be passing over the condenser for the AC to get cold in these cars.
2. Make sure that the AC system has enough Freon.

when the guy told me the ac didn't work my first decision was to buy a can of freon with sealant in it. As soon as i connected the hose to the fitting on the car it read that it was way over pressure and actually caused the crimped part of the hose meeting the gauge to somewhat blow. so had to throw it out. So i decided to vacuum some of the Freon out to a normal level and its working fine except when i stop. I will check that today and see what happens. Will update after i do so.
