Some people say that removing the ground strap effects the AM radio reception.

It's the only explanation that makes any sense to me. The hoods on these cars are a composite that doesn't conduct electricity so it's pointless to ground it.

Did you read the other thread that I bumped?

There's so many metals in the earth that electricity wants to find a way down to it. That's where a ground wire comes in and leads it to it.

If you see people working on a power line, they have ground lines that connect to a spot in the earth with a giant screw-thing. In the case a line is energized by accident, the electricity will flow through that ground wire and around the area in which the person is working (assuming that they put them in the direction in which electricity will flow

That ground wire ties into the under-hood insulation, by the way, not the hood itself.

The hood isn't metal, so it won't conduct electricity. I think that the insulated mat underneath the hood is grounded to prevent the ignition system from creating radio interference.

That's my semi-educated guess...

haha okay so I removed my hood pad a couple weeks ago and left the ground attached with one of those push pins.. I don't notice any radio interference. I guess I can just fully remove it lol just had no idea why it was even there.
