Mechanic

Hey guys I just wanted to see if you guys thought this is normal I brought my car to a mechanic to install a new throw out bearing and install my nitrous kit he keeps saying that the nitrous kit is far more complicated to install than AM Says its a NX. He has had it for a month now. I went over to his house yesterday and all he had done this week was unbolt the seat. I wanted to know if you guys think it should be taking this long to get a throw out bearing replaced and NX kit installed.

Not at all someone is pulling you around

It's probably only difficult because he doesn't know how to do it

That's what I thought I am thinking about going and just getting it from him he said he would have it ready by next week. Which is also what he has said 2 weeks in a row. He also screwed up a part I had to replace and he said he still has to charge me the day and a half of labor on the part I had to replace. I am getting pretty upset about it.

It, literally, takes 30 seconds to remove the rear seat.

You should have had that car back 27 days ago. Mechanics that work out of their house suck ***. They don't get anything done because there are too many distractions.

Get the car out of there and take it to a legitimate mechanic.

He says he has done a few kits before but that this kit is much harder to install and that AM Isn't telling the truth about the difficult and time to install. And he is going to charge me around $700 dollars too.

Thanks for the help I am going to try and go get it soon what really pisses me off is when I call to go being him the parts he had broken he acts like he's been working on it all day by putting it up on the ramps and on jack stands. He also wanted to know where to mount the window switch Monday and I went to drop off a part yesterday and he didn't even put the Velcro up its pathetic.

Don't pay him a dime and tell him if he wants his money, he can take you to small claims court.

Awesome!
Go while he isn't there and take your car. That will make it easy.
Just leave him a note saying that you took the car and have found someone else to complete the job.

Mechanics usually only know how to take a part off and put a new part on.
He probably knows just about as much as you when it comes to installing the nitrous kit.
When people bring after market parts and accessories to a basic shop mechanic 9/10 times that guy has never had to deal with that but will accept the job.

Yep I agree he didn't even know how to put on the throttle body plate he was trying to put it between the CAI instead of underneath the throttle body and he told me I had to buy the nozzle so I went over later that day and saw what he was doing so I showed him how to do it. But I had to ship back the nozzle he told me to order.

Yea it really sucks that now it has an exhaust leak he said he had to break the weld to drop the tranny to replace the TOB. And on top of that the time he is taking to install the nitrous kit I installed the bottle ran the line to the engine and mounted the solenoids and all he has done is wire each solenoid and mount the relay. Not wire it up either he still hasn't done that.

The nitrous is a weekend project for a novice so you be the judge if that part is worth it.

I will say though, $250 labor to do a throw out bearing is a rockin' good deal.

It's too bad that Mr Backyard Mechanic is so goddamned slow.

Lol I'm going back over there tomorrow I paid him 2 weeks ago for the TOB so I'm planning on either getting it towed or see if the exhaust is back on tomorrow. It sucks getting screwed over like that cause I haven't been able to drive my car for a month now and I getting it basically the same as I brought it except the TOB.

Yea that was a pretty good deal on the TOB the reason I brought the nitrous to him to do I because a month ago I didn't have time but I am going to spend all day on it this weekend.

Lol of course he would tear the crap out of it considering he drives a 50 year old truck that has a peice of wood screwed onto the Frame to use as the bed and every time I go over says how I should get rid of my gt because it's a ford.

Why did you give this guy the job in the first place? Why didn't you just take it to a shop, I would have grabbed it in 3 days if nothing had been done

Because I have had him do some of the other work on my car such as ac compressor and the radiator fan and the whole front suspension and priced me pretty fairly on it and got it done quick, but with this I didn't expect it to me a month to get all this done. I think it's just because he accepted the job not knowing what he was doing and is charging me for the labor of him spending an extra couple of hours on stuff trying to figure it out.

Yep I should have made sure he knew what he was doing. It sucks that I have left it with him so long. I was planning on taking it to a custom auto shop for the nitrous and have him do the TOB, but I figured since he already had the car there i should just let him do the nitrous.

Haha yea if he does finish it by tomorrow, which is highly doubtful considering he's had it for a month and has only wired the ground and power wire, I will pay someone to look over what he's done to make sure it is right. No more backyard mechanics for me!!!'n
