Car still stalls.

Ok got good news and bad news. Fixe the coolant issue. So I took the mustang to a guy tht only works on them. He told me it sounds like the torque converter is going out. And he has a transmission with torque converter for 400. So let's see later when I get it.

That will cause it to stall.

Good luck!

Well changing out the transmission will be easy. Getting the money won't. Lol. I already have access to a lift and all te tools I need and a mechanic is going to assist me. He had a 01 cobra engine that runs with a slight knock I want to get to rebuild. But that's a dream. Lol.

So, since this guy is a so called mustang guy or guru, did he test drive the car? And you state in your 1st post that he thinks it is a T/C, goes he or you know for sure? I mean that is alot of money to throw at something and it not be it. What kind of diagnostic work was done to come to this conclusion?

"He told me it sounds like the torque converter is going out. And he has a transmission with torque converter for 400."

My opinion is to avoid back yard Mechanics. Take your car to a reputable tranny shop. They will let your know if your problem is or isn't your Torque Converter. Perhaps it is, maybe you like to mod your car.. Ever think rather then buying a used converter you could probably upgrade yours and get a new one for just slightly more.
Again, if you cant do the work yourself, do yourself a favour and spend a few extra dollars and go to a reputable shop.

Why are you replacing the whole tranny if just your TC is going bad? You could throw a stall in for that money or spend a couple hundred on a new stock one. You can also try to drain your TC and re fill your tranny again buts that probably a long shot

He didn't test drive it. Heard me coming up to his house and that's was when it started acting up. I told him everything I did. He tested each cop ad they were good. Tested the maf and it was good. I just saw some of the work he did at his house. He rebuilt a cobra engine. And also transferred a roush engine/ supercharged in his 98 mustang. And transferred everything from his 2000 mustang into that. I was actually impressed with his setup He is a wholesale car guy. Buys them in auction. Fixes the ones that are not totaled and parts out the other. He told me though that from listening to the exhaust that there was a slight misfire but couldn't pin point it. I wasn't about to leave the car with him and pay him to locate it. Had the kids with me. Lol.

Turbo I thought about that. Saw a t/c on rock auto. Are there differnt ones I can get for performance. I would first really like to just get my mustang working good. I would really like to buy a used engine with lower miles. Put it in my mustang an rebuild the old one the way I would want it. Now don't get me wrong the Stang drove great at going out there. Had fun finally. Just that stalling gets me.

Got more info. Spoke to my dad. He's a retired master tech. He was telling me he ran into this before. E told me the two possible issue was the t/c or the computer. One car he had someone work on had that issue. The computer was reading incorrect and was making the mustang lockup ad stall

You know, I read your previous thread and this thread. And please do not take my remarks the wrong way, I am saying this with the hopes that you start dealing with this issue the right way, and spend once and be done with it, instead of spend once, then again, and again and still need help with this very issue. There is one common theme in all this, and that is no one knows what is going on with your car, no one. You have done all the wrong things in my honest opinion. The worst is that you are listening to all the people you talk to and they all have different ideas of whats wrong and still you have this issue. I personally think it is time for you to take this to a reputable service shop, and have a true diagnostic done by a trained/certified mechanic. In all this it seems that you are taking everyones word of what is wrong and you are willing to run with it. Then someone else tells you something and you change direction and run with that idea.

Do yourself a hugh favor, go to a reputable garage and have a true diagnostic done and have a certified technician go throughly through the car. And get it fixed right.

I am only saying this as I tend to thing you are lost in what is going on here and you are going to spend money continually and you are going to keep posting the same thing, and that is "this person said this, and this person said this".

Grumpy your absolutely right. I was hoping to fix it my self with help from here. And some people I know I base. Luckly I really havnt spent too much money changing parts. I have two options like u said One take it to a shop. Or two have my dad look at it from Arizona who is A master tech. Most likely I will send it to a shop. But thanks everyone for taking the time to look at y vehicle. I think it might be time to take It to a shop

The benefit to having a reputable shop diagnose the problem is then you can decide if you want to do the work yourself or save up and have the shop do it.

I believe that most transmission shops will dignose your car for free. Call around to some reputable transmission shops in your area and see if they can take a look at it.

Ok got a call from the tranny shop. Nothing is wrong with the tranny. But their snap on reader is showing a miss fire. They don't know where. And it's not putting up a code. I had a pending code of cylinder six misfire. Changed the cop. Nothing else. What's next. I'm afraid to send it to. A dealer. Cause that's 80 an hour and god nows how long to did te issue.

That's good news that it isn't transmission related.

It takes us back to square one though.

Other than possibly a faulty fuel injector on #6, we're starting to run out of the "easy" possibilities.

I recommend removing all of the spark plugs and inspecting them for proper gap and, also, there may be a clue to the problem by looking at the color of the plugs.
While they're out, you should do a compression test on the engine to be sure that it is in good condition and that the compression of all of the cylinders is reasonably close.

It's easy to do.
You can get a compression tester at Harbor Freight for cheap and we can walk you through the process.

its really easy, rent one from auto zone!.. take the cop off, remove the spark plug, screw it in to where the spark plug was and crank the engine.. that's the gist of it, will give you step by step if you decide you want to try it yourself.
... as for it not being the tranny, well told you reputable shops are a lot better option then a back yard mechanic lol.

I'm not sure.
I like TC's advice better though... Get s loaner from an auto parts store. Or ask around on base, someone is bound to have one that they'll loan to you.

Ok when to the shop to pick up mustang. Dose not throw a miss fire code. They had it hooked up to a snap on reader. Now when the car was warm enough. After driving the reader would show miss fire yes. Then would turn off. They back on. And kept soon this. Now it ony happen when the car was warm enough. I'm going to try and check the spark plugs and do a compression test. If I can't find it I'm selling it.

He has liek 3 different threads going on about this same issue. Like I said, he has to have A.D.D.. Now that he has 2 stangs now, he is going to be all over this forum, bouncing back and forth like a greyhound trying to catch the rabbitt at the track.
