2001 Bullitt Build Thread

Maybe urs is different but my tensioner was a 1/2 ... And so was the one i took off out of a 04 vic... The fuse thing is accurate but remember u need to set up ur meter so that when u put the fuse back in it dont wake the system back up, kinda complicated to explain best if u do some research on it because if u dont when u take out the fuse and put it back in it will trigger that system to wake back up , if u need details and think u are up for it ill tell u how to set ur meter up with a wire lead ... I dont think u need do this yet though the napa test should tell u if u have a bad regulator thats allowing voltage draw back through it because a alt can charge fine but when car is off the internal regulator can allow a backdraw and kill the batt , if it test good and ur batt test good then we will see about the draw thing and fuses and all that jazz

Yea also gotta deal with getting her inside the garage to work. Gotta move cars around every time. Over summer though if I can get her the spot in the garage for good it'll be a lot easier

Well let's see if some music clears my mind. There is a performance in the chapel tonight. Although I'm not religious should be relaxing. Just music

If I can't narrow it down to a part I can fix/replace this weekend I'll just unplug the battery for the week until I drive it again next weekend. That should get rid of the draw.

You can test the alternator by unhooking the batt while the car is running. And not sure if the in the alt is internally/externally regulated but to test that just turn your lights on and rev your engine a little like 1k or 2k and see if your lights get brighter or dim

On my Nissan I had a draw I couldn't track down so I wired a circuit breaker with a toggle switch in the cabin under the dash. Could be a viable option for an elusive draw

2001 Bullitt Build Thread

Summary of events today:

1. AAA jumped the car
2. While driving I topped 3rd and felt a weird lag at redline, but drive fine the rest of the time.
3. Heard what sounded like a bolt or something fly under my car.
4. I have a noticeable exhaust leak after #3 (lots of loud ticking when I accelerate) coming around from mid car.
5. I parked her and unhooked the battery for the week.

You make it sound horrible!
Probably your exhaust has come loose again.
And the car just had a dead battery, the computer lost all of it's memory. And the charging system is weak! It's not going to run correctly.

And the bolt?
The car still runs without it, so that was just unnecessary weight!

The car isn't exactly new anymore. It's got some miles on it and it's starting to show its age now. Man made it, it can break. Fix it and keep driving it, or get some beater to put around in...

2001 Bullitt Build Thread

If I don't unplug the battery I would have to drive it every day for it to keep charge. I can live with having to re set my radio stations lol

And i definitely did expect things like this when I bought the car. Was hoping they would have started happening a little later though lol.

If I do get the internship over summer and I do have to live off campus next year I will consider a DD. I feel comfortable making around $200/mo payments on a car. At a 5 year finance with low rate that can get me around a $17k car (would pay extra each month also). So I'll keep an eye out for potential candidates.

I perused auto trader for a bit and got a few candidates:

2012 Focus Titanium (white)
2012 Focus Titanium (black)
2012 Buick Regal
2009 Lincoln MKX
2008 Infinite FX35

Some requirements.... Leather, non pre-historic interior (got the Mustang for when i want zero interior), lower miles

Ok well most of my recommendations are out the window then. Gave them from an Auto Tech point of view on reliability, durability and other variables, and what comes in my shop that needs fixing. Which I guess I'm one of the only people I know that isn't bothered by crappy interior, which I prefer cloth to be honest. But keep looking something will turn up...

For a beater I wouldn't even pay that much unless you really feel you need something that nice. You can get a nice lower mileage mid 2000s Honda for half that price and it'll run forever. I paid $8k for a 2002 CRV back in 2012 and that was a great car. Not fast, not great looking but got 25mpg and could haul a lot of things if I wanted it to. Interior on it looked new too, just had a tear in the driver's seat which I paid $140 for the cover from Honda and then replaced myself. Something like that. I dunno.

But your math is about right for a 2.5% loan if you qualify for that. That is the rate I get for 4 year used car loans. My CU does 2.75% for a 5 year and 2.25% for a 3 year.

Buick Regal?
Wasn't 2012 during General Motors "dark years"?

Lately, I've kind of been thinking about getting something a little bit more comfortable to drive, also. Everything that I own rides like a truck!
It will be interesting to go drive those EcoBoost's and see what they are like. I also want to test drive a Focus RS when they are released.

With my dad as a co-signer I could probably get under 2%

I want either something I'll have and like for some years, or something I could literally not give one **** about. So it's either like $15k for a car or $2k

If gas mileage isn't a concern, they are practically GIVING away mid-late 2000s Expeditions and those things do NOT ride like trucks. I have one and riding in my 03 Expy vs my Father's 05 F150 is night and day. They can tow like trucks though.

I would like somewhat good mpg. 25-30 highway would be good enough for me.

Yeah. They weigh a lot so they have a nice ride.
I have been driving trucks for most of my life. I sort of want to get something cool, that is modern, and is kind of fast... With a comfortable ride. That gets decent gas mileage! Lol

I'm like you though Scott, I over think almost everything... Back and forth... From one good idea to another!
Hell, I don't know... Maybe I WILL end up getting an Expedition!

S2000 was one of the most fun cars I've ever driven. My buddy had one also and it never gave him problems. 260hp in a really light RWD car and still got 25-30 mpg.

Preludes are also fun. Just not as peppy. Miatas are fun too and comparable to s2ks just not as fast. But whatever you decide man good luck.
