See if you can still get a Contour SVT with a 3L swap and quiafe and all the bolt ons done already. Not big, very fun around corners, look and sound good and you get a SVT cert to put on the wall. Most fun non Mustang DD I ever had was my 2000 CSVT.

edit: I bet this guy would take $7500 haha

My friend bought a new 99 Contour SVT right after we graduated. It was so impressive to me at the time, for a few 18 yr old to buy a $24k car or somewhere around there. He hated having the huge payment though, it was like $380 a mth after his trade in and a couple grand down. Anyway, it was a very nice car of course cause it was new. The interior was actually really nice black leather, his had a silver exterior. After a exhaust, and a few mods it was a quick and very comfortable car, very little issues too.

That car in the link I posted actually has a Torsen diff which is even better. Seriously if this was last year the money I spent on my Steeda might have gone to a flight out and drive back of this thing... Gorgeous vehicle and nobody else will have one. When I had mine I actually had ppl tell me I was a poser for putting SVT badges on a Contour. Lol.

Best DD I ever had. Fun, 28mpg no matter how hard I beat on it, nobody else around had one and legit SVT. Surprising amount of upgrades were available too, not sure about now tho. The amount of good ones is really dwindling. That one I linked may bet the best one left in existence...

Looks comfortable. Even the rear seats. I'd rock it for a daily for sure. Problem is anything with any cool factor is a mod money pit!

Well i started the Mustang after going to the gym today and a nice big puff of smoke came out, and noticeably smells like oil on start up.... Idk if its just me also, but it seems to be dogging a bit under 2k rpm. And i have a nice rattle and some popping under the car.

I'm tempted to just drop insurance on it, and store it at my uncle's warehouse at this point.

Try a thicker weight oil maybe? I dunno it is up there in miles right? I mean if its just going to sit and you get a DD then yeah I'd probably park it in a safe place and take insurance off. That's what is done to my 2000 right now although its in pieces anyway... As long as its not stored where it can be seen by a passing cop you don't really even have to keep the registration current...

I'm sure he would just put it on "Non-op". Here in California to keep a car registered it has to pass smog every other year. And if he is puffing smoke like that there is no way it's going to pass.

I don't have to smog it.

But I really don't want to let it sit, then no more shows or events I can go to with my club. 8 weeks damn near killed me.

You prob should park it and just start saving up for your swap. I saw a 1800 mile coyote go on eBay from Shelby American for 2900+200 shipping and it included a full harness and computer. There was nothing wrong with it.

I told you about my "connections" at Blackhawk C&C right? How i plan to afford the entire swap. The way its looking with that it shouldn't cost all that much to do the swap lol. But the way its looking now i'll have to price a new trans into that.

On a side note. This seems fairly intriguing, but kind of cheap. KBB for this is a few thousand higher. Making me wonder.

2001 Bullitt Build Thread

My wife is on her second one of those. We had an 11 and she put 99k on it and we traded it in and got her a 14. Hers were both the premium model with all the bells and whistles but overall that's are good cars. Here is what I will say about that model, the base models are not very nice inside. Like mega plastic and seats are kinda meh. We would get loaners when hers would go in for service and they were always base models. Another thing to consider is the maintenance. They require "special" oil and even changing the oil filter is a royal pain in the butt. I did it once and after that I said just take it to the dealer. That's a decent price but these cars were only about 15k new in base model form. And this one has 65k on it so I mean it's probably priced about right. It's going to need a bunch of expensive service about that mileage and my guess is the old owner didn't want to deal with that.

I'd say pass and find something more user friendly that doesn't deplete all your funds.

Ok, i'm still looking around. I do keep coming back to the Hyundai Elantra. Pretty cheap and they seem to go pretty high miles without issues. Our 07 Sonata never had any issues and sold it near 100k. But i see a bunch being sold with 130k+, so they probably will last a while.

Something cheap like the Elantra i'll probably keep for a few years, but if i get something a tad nicer and newer i'd probably keep it longer. But still on a tight budget.

At this point most "base models" are probably still a lot nicer than the Mustang lol.

Well, if you want to try and keep the Bullitt running a bit longer, you could remove the spark plugs from those two "problem" cylinders and inspect/replace them. One or both of the spark plugs might be oil fouled. If that is the case, it may also be the cause of the popping noise.
The rattle is likely something loose from the clutch installation. Perhaps the exhaust.

I won't have any time to diagnose anything until summertime. Assuming i don't get an internship. But if i don't then i'll also be working a hell of a lot of hours with my friend (probably 75+ per week).

And the popping is more of a feel than a noise. I don't really know the diagnosis, but i'm wondering if its something to do with the input shaft. I can feel the popping when slowing down and even when creeping, like if the car is just rolling slightly with the brake off.

At this point i may as well just do a coyote and T56 Magnum at the same time. If the car would be down for a while i can collect parts slowly, but can't really build it until i have an actual place.

Registration paperwork won't come in for a few months, so i have time to decide if i want to non-op it or not.

I do like the rack on top.... Because the Mustang won't be my focus anymore for a while due to just needing major work i do want to get into another hobby. I've always wanted to get into snowboarding. But i knew that it would suck to take the Mustang there because of gas and just how it is lol.

If i did, though, i wouldn't be able to afford keeping insurance on the Mustang.

That link didn't work for me, but no matter... That is the best car that you have considered thus far.
I think that it is a wise choice to maybe pay a bit more, and get something that has a warranty. That way, when you graduate and get a job, you will have a reliable vehicle that you won't have to worry about.

Sorry, I know you said not to, but I laughed......

You can race my moms 2 door Yaris if u get that thing. The Yaris motor looks like it came off a lawnmower, don't know anything about the spark tho. Definitely will be a gas saver, and space saver, forget date nights tho, lolz

Thats kind of what i've been thinking. I'd love to save money. But also having something with a warranty and pretty reliable would be nice, that way i can possibly have it a bit longer.

I'd have to drive a few things though. Probably a better choice than the Smart car i was considering before lol. Which actually would be around the same price for a smart car lease.

Pffft you know you want to rebuild the Bullitt.

Honestly... you'd be incredibly stupid to not get that Spark or something very similar for that money with that age and a 100k warranty.

I do still want to coyote and T56 swap the Bullitt. Just all in due time.

That's what makes it a "sporty" four-door!

I drove a Chevy Cruze, as a rental car, a few years ago, and I thought it was a pretty good little car. And it got around 36 miles per gallon driving it like a "rental car"! Haha
Also drove a little Kia, around the same time, as a rental, and it seemed good also. (The Chevy had a way better stereo)

I mostly am leaning toward stuff that is short. Much easier to deal with here in the bay area.
