Such a shame.
I feel the same way when I see abandoned airports.

We need to pool our money and save that place!
Bring it back to it's formal glory!

I'm kind of jealous... I don't know if I even want to talk to you right now Andrew. Lol

You won't need any luck so just go and have a good time!
And if you have an opportunity to get an instructor to ride with you, do it!
You can pick up some great driving tips that way.

I drive by it on the way to work everyday it's actually for sale now. It would be an uphill battle to get it reopened as an operating racetrack but if I had the money I would preserve it as a Motorsports Museum and Car Show grounds and maybe utilize the track as a hiking/biking course. All the big names of the 60's ran there Carroll Shelby, Penske, Mark Donahue, Richard Petty, Jackie Stewart and so on

You'll have a blast! Road racing is really addicting and it's awesome being able to wind the car out to 100+

This is a smaller course. Only one straight which is across the finish. Might be able to hit 100, that'll be max though

Don't worry about it. It's just like a bigger, faster autocross. You'll do fine. Just go and learn the track, and work your way up to speed.
And I hear you about the mornings. To get to Marina, for the morning group, I have to leave here by 3:30am.
It's all part of the fun!

I bet you are! You'll love it though road course racing is so much fun. Are they going to have a car ahead of you pacing you?

I'm not entirely sure. Tomorrow is more beginner based. They have a classroom segment to it also. Then 2 beginner groups along with the intermediate and advanced groups. So it is geared toward newbies.

When I did it years ago they took us out in groups of 4 with a lead car who was communicating by radio with someone watching everyone. The lead car shows you the line around the track and braking etc. and prevents you from overdriving the track which is easy to do! If everyone looked good they would gradually pick up the pace. I have a feeling you will be bit hard by the racing bug tomorrow! From watching your Autocross videos I think you'll be good!

Well........ It was super fun until the last run. I went down the straight all the way on it, shifted to 4th and the car just gave up. Misfiring like crazy. I think its one of the COPs that is gone. I'll test those as well as the spark plugs..... I was able to limp it 2 hours home thankfully. Almost had to be towed off the track (with no tow hook, eek).

Other than that the final run i was doing pretty damn well for it being my first track day. About to edit the video. My cameras died/filled up memory after the 4th run so my 5th run i didn't get any video.

Well hopefully it is as simple as a COP and you didn't throw a plug or anything... Hey you made it home fine and I bet you had a blast up until the mechanical issue.

Glad you had a blast! How did the 4.10s work out for you?

Fingers crossed that it's not the same issue I had with my car

Hopefully it's just the COP! Running on a racetrack will expose any weaknesses! I've had a few of them go bad on various mod motors I've owned so there's a good chance that is what it is! Keep us posted! So when are you going back? Lol

2001 Bullitt Build Thread

I won't really be able to check today since we are going to a relatives house for Easter. But I'll check tomorrow. Just from pulling wires on the COPs I narrowed it to cylinder 1. Idk why but I got no CEL

When the #8 cyl on my Expy started misfiring I got no CEL either and that was a cheap Ebay COP I did not know was in there on the way out. Its almost 100% a COP. I got a set of 3 OEM ones used on ebay for $17 shipped and they work fine in my Expy with new boots/springs.

I wasn't able to get video when it happened. GoPros died before my last run group. 2 hour trip to grand parents house today though. So I have time to edit them there and back.

Right now I don't think I want to build a 2v. I'd rather pull a junkyard 5.0 (coyote) and build that and put it in. Make it a high compression and high revving motor and get 550+ whp NA out of it. Teaser vid coming as soon as I have wifi again

Well at least it happened on the last lap and not the first!

Isn't it the #1 cylinder that had the bad connector a while back? The one that became disconnected after the dyno run?

No. That was #5 the first on the right. This one is the first on the left (passenger side). That connector was the first thing I checked when it happened.
