I just noticed the ****** timing gets changed by the forum software lol. Reduce or subtract timing should show up okay.

Haha I didn't even think about it that way.

I'd go one range colder too, the TR6s are what everyone swears by, I did great with 99 cent per plug Autolite 103 coppers.

And yeah you did get lucky if that's two cylinders and all that happened was the plugs grounded out. Wow...

As for a daily, I dunno what your budget is but there are some fun little cars out there that are decently fast for $3-$4k. Take a look at a few Contour SVT/Cougar forums and see if you can't find a 3L swapped one. Those make 250ft lbs and are really fun little dailies that get 25-28mpg hand jammed.

If we are talking more like $1500... mid-late 90's Honda. I got 40mpg out of a 1.5L Del Sol stick shift when I had one and that thing could fly around corners. Had ZERO balls in a straight line tho.

For a daily I don't care about speed. Mostly comfort and reliability. I also don't need extreme mpg. Just not crappy like the stang

2001 Bullitt Build Thread

Well I can only have one car currently since I'm on campus (unless I want to have a friend say it's their car so I can get another parking pass). If it's a cheap beater then just a few grand. But i wouldn't be against getting something nicer and financing it if I feel I'll keep it for a while, if so 15-25k

Well get off the pedestal.
Base model is the better buy.

Leather in the premiums suck.

It's a sports car.

Only thing we have leather in is my wife's 2013 explorer bc it's loaded and my 11 king ranch f250

The Mustang is getting cloth race seats. But for a daily I want the extras.

Base model is most definitely a better buy, ESPECIALLY in 2015 where the base model gets the track apps too.

If I ever do get a Coyote I can't see spending the extra $$$ for what amounts to eye candy honestly. Don't need HIDs (nobody does), real racing seats can be had in good quality leather if you want leather not to mention they'll save a ton of weight and install in about 10 minutes. Don't need to have the option to change my interior lights to any spectrum in the raindbow... Only option I would consider would be the automatic.

But that's just me.

As far as financing $15-$20k... wait till you are actually employed after college IMO. Unless you have the $$$ saved or whatever, I don't know your situation. If your Bullitt is indeed ok after ****ing up the plugs like that I'd just keep doing what you are doing and driving that.

Thats the plan so far. I wasn't planning on getting one right away, maybe once i am off campus and have a job settled in. I do have plenty of money invested, but i'd rather not pull that out. But it doesn't mean i'm not high and dry if something goes south.

Part of me kind of wants a truck, so i can rent or borrow a trailer and tow the Mustang to the track, but part of me wants something smaller that isn't a PITA to drive in the city. Will have to see where i land in the next 2 years.

I am the type of guy that likes the amenities though, that is if its a car i'll have for a while.... Although, I'm tempted to find a $1,000 miata to daily lmao

If I had the money, this is something I would like. I really enjoy my Mach but TBH, I'd rather daily drive a more combfortable car with nice options and reasonable power. When I test drove an EB S550 auto a few months ago, I was introduced to the perfect daily driver LOL. Now I just need to convince my wife that.

2001 Bullitt Build Thread

Anyway.

Tow hook is ordered. After limping off the track I figured it's better safe than sorry. At least it will be functional not like 90% of the cars on the road that have never seen a track.

Race seats will be bought as soon as they are back in stock at AM.

Over summer I will pull the sound deadening. That plus the seats should cut at least 80 pounds.

I should probably look into some NGK plugs and a better tune. The BAMA 91 race has served me well until this point, but now I think it's time to change it up.

Also planning on making a splitter and canards whether it's with the stock bumper or with a different ones either Roush or Saleen.

And then if funds and time allow a different trunk lid and adjustable rear wing.

A guy walked around the track day and took photos then had all the guys he could write their emails down so he could send out links to the photos.... Here are pics of mine... And here is the link to the rest of them. The cars i knew there were the 69 Firebird, Yellow S2k (15), and Blue 5.0 (16). Also if you guys have instagram 101blur was there also, his is the white coyote. That thing is nasty around the track.

That Firebird needs an LS swap!

2001 Bullitt Build Thread

Should have seen the 5th run. That hard S with the small triangle patch I took hard enough to feel the entire car shift to the side when I made the hard right after passing the triangle portion.

You are doing it exactly right when that happens!
The car is perfectly neutral.

The hard part is keeping it neutral in EVERY corner!

Especially when the car understeers like a pig. I'll have to raise the roll center with the pan hard bar, and then get a set of square tires all around. Hell i wonder if it would help if i put the 10" up front and 9" in the back lol.

Not 100% sure, i would have to ask. It has C5 Corvette brakes, tubular front upper A arms (its a double A arm set up). A massive 460ci motor up front (my car still moves quicker), and a few other things.

Haha.
A reverse staggered setup?!? You never know!

I don't recall ever seeing anyone actually try it but I have heard people discuss possibly giving it a try.
It would certainly solve the problem of not being able to rotate staggered wheels... You could use the relatively fresh edges, of the rear tires, on the front, only at the race track!
One drawback would be that you would have to listen to people point out to you that you put your wheels on backwards. Lol.
I'm thinking that every possible combination has already been tried.

A square setup seems to work good on these cars and it will eliminate SOME of the understeer... By the time you've worn out one set of tires, and are on the second set, you will have figured out how to drive the car fast around the track with minimal understeer.

Yea I want to get a set of track wheels. I'll test fit my 10" up front to see if it'll work, if it does then I'll get 18x10 all around.

Find a set of OEM 2000 Cobra R rims. They are out there. 18x9.5 all the way around, 275/35/18 all the way around, light, OEM, designed for track use.

And don't use wheels spacers, even if they don't come out to the fender all the way.

The 18x9.5s are close out back. Up front they are flush.

I like 17's, for track use, because of one simple reason... The tires are less expensive!
And it is easier to find factory Terminator rims.
