Got some things done finally!!

Well I got the Hurst shifter in yesterday. Then today I received a replacement tire for the d/s rear as AM sent me the wheel and tire package last month and the d/s rear had a ripped bead that caused the tire to go flat. So got that remounted today. After that I went and had the windows tinted, along with the tail lights, and side markers. Also received today my new AM black OEM headlights and installed those too. I am still waiting on my chin spoiler and Mach 1 grille delete kit to come in from AM. Also ordered the Cobra snake grille emblem and matching front fender emblems to go along with the SVT decklid trim. I am not trying to make this car something it is not, but love the snake more than the running horse on my car. Hopefully by end of year she will be breathing a cobra motor or maybe if the wife allows me a coyote swap with new 6 spd. I really have to kiss that *** on that one and then some. Last week I bought new tail lights and installed those last week. Prior owner had those puke projectors and euro tail lights on her, ugghh.

Last month I installed new AM SR springs and new balljoints and tierods, and swaybar bushings. Installed the tire and wheel package from AM also. 17's all around, with 315/35 Sumo in back and 275/40 up front.

Finally I got to wash and wax her too today. Here are some pics of her as she sits. She just rolled over 60k miles today.

And am still working on these upgrades as I work one by one. I should have everything done by end of year. Here is what is left...

1) Mach 1 grille delete (ordered/awaiting arrival)
2) Chin Spoiler (ordered/awaiting arrival)
3) Cobra R hood (Cervini's)
4) side scoops (Cervini's)
5) 03-04 Cobra front/rear bumpers.
6) 03/04 Cobra rear wing
7) Maximum Motorsports suspension
8) Kooks Headers (Ceramic)
9) Magnaflow's catted H-Pipe / New Flowmasters
10) Under drive pulley's
11) Repaint
12) Rebuilt 03-04 Cobra motor and manual trans (Maybe a Coyote-still contemplating this one)

This is what she looked like when I picked her up in June. She was slammed to the ground with no suspension give as the prior owner cut 2-3 loops out of each coil. Had 20's all around, and sat on rails, the inner fenderwell skirts were toast from all the tire rub along with the abs sensors were rubbed in half. Fixed all that and got her back to normal ride without the spine jolting ride it was.

Looks great. What color are you going to paint it. Also do you like the Hurst shifter? I was thinking of getting that one for my car.

Thanks, I am going to keep her yellow, but thinking of added carbon fiber on the side scoops and rear cobra spoiler. The hurst shifter is a great piece as I have put it in pretty much all my mustangs in the past. It is the only shifter aftermarket I have ever bought.

Thanks, I could not agree more with you on those previous rims. No sidewall, and offset nightmare.

Thanks, yes going to keep her chrome yellow, there was only a little over a thousand made of this color in 99. Then Ford went to a screaming yellow.

Thanks bud, there is a Mustang run on the island the Saturday the 13th. I will be joining a bunch in this area and we will be driving around the island when we make our way back here to my house. It occurs once every year. But since retirement, this car has turned into my hobby to occupy my time.

Looks much better. I really hate when ppl do that to mustangs or most cars in general. If your future plan calls for an 03/04 cobra you might want to hold off on the Kooks headers. Those things I know are expensive and if your getting a new motor set up in the near future I'd probably just put that $ into the new set up. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah the Kooks are expensive, but the motor swap is going to take time, as I would be rebuilding it before it goes in. So the cost is not a useless point as it would be used and there are plenty of mustang folks that would buy my old engine or parts. But I may go with another brand depending on timing or not at all. Just depends how fast the new motor happens and able to do the swap. But thanks for the comments though.

I here ya on that one. My car had a 3.8 in it for the first 10 yrs of its life but when I swapped In a 4.6 I put long tubes on then to simplify that mod since the motor was out.

Speaking from experience wasting money, if you want an 03/04 Terminator motor in the car, sell yours and buy an 03/04 Terminator. It'll cost the same or less and you'll have a legit Termi. Same with the Coyote, if you want a Coyote motor then just buy the Coyote and that is from a simple cost perspective. This is what I am doing. I will likely sell my 98 in a year or two and get a 11/12 GT and probably look for a beater car to go to work in.

That is logical, but, I am now retired, and that being said I have alot of time on my hands. So something like this is time utilized instead of doing nothing. I bought this in mind to make something of it. Buying a Cobra or a coyote defeats my purpose of a hobby.

I get it. Makes sense to me. I will likely upgrade to a newer mustang in the next couple of years as well but I still want to keep the one I have. It has grown on me after the time spent changing things on it. Just wish I had more funds for my expensive hobby.

Then buy a Coyote or a real Termi and mod that lol. There is plenty you can DIY on those cars to take up your time and have a much greater return on performance and investment than a 2V. But its your car, just listing out other options. Not hating, just stating.

Then again, not having a car payment is nice. That's the one thing I'm unsure of when I eventually look to buy a Coyote or potentially a Termi or 07-09 GT500. My 98 costs $20/mo to insure and I own it and if I wreck it oh well, it was a 98GT.

That would be true and the simplest, but I spent nearly a month trying to find a good starter base on any type of V8 / 5spd Mustang on the island. And I went to all 4 corners per say in search of that objective. But here ppl rag their cars out and then post them as excellent or show quality cars for sale. I get in the car and drive to them and it turns out to be a turd. PPL here think just cause they took and put on long tubes and flowmasters, and rattle canned the engine bay with much overspray that it is a show piece. I got so frustrated in those 30 days and needing a second car so the wife was ready to start her job, I gave up for a split moment in finding a good base to build from. Then I came across this 99 GT and saw the potential even though the suspension was trash, but low miles and good condition all around inside and out but the suspension. SO I grabbed it for 6k with 58k miles. There are Cobras out there, and coyotes too, but for what they want for them, and the condition for which they are, it was stupid of me to buy one. Even new cars are trash, or wrecked as the insurance needed is non-existant. The government here pays your insurance and covers you up to 3k in damages to the other car, no repairs to your own regardless of fault. That being said, that pays for nothing, not even labor costs. So instead ppl here drive their crap until it falls apart. You can get outside secondary coverage which is what I have that costs me $700 a year, but most here on the island do not care for that extra expense, unless you bought new and then you have to carry full coverage for the 1st 3 years, then they drop the coverage which is alowed by law, and at that time is when the cars go to hell. Here on the island most ppl do not care for muscle cars due to the fuel price crisis. Here they pay by the litre, so for 87 octane, it costs .98 cents, for 93 it costs $1.15 a litre. Driving on the island reminds me of Korea, no one gives a crap about laws, and right of way. So you have to be on your toes at all times. Just today I went to the post office, a stupid driver was next to me in an old Toyota, had his blinker on, and started to drift into my lane trying to force me to brake and allow him in. I had none of it and they get upset over not being allowed to push and force their way into the lane. So that is why I got this GT instead of a Cobra or Coyote. Sure I could of bought new, but I do not care to buy new cars, my wife on the other hand is the opposite, she has to have a new car every 3 yrs. So for her that is fine, but not me. I had my share of new, and the depreciation rate anymore sucks. So most times you are in the hole within the first 30 days anymore. For the most part I go through cars like shoes, once they lose their appeal, time to look for something different. But now that I am retired, I just can not go and do that anymore without the wife having a fit. So if I do decide to sale, at least I pretty much can get what I got into it, and start over.

Yes it is a joke. The taxation was none existant a few years ago until the island nearly went backrupt. Congress gave several billion dollars to the island government in exchange for taxation on all goods bought and sold. Previously the only taxation that was happening was on luxury items, andything over 2,500.00 in costs. The island is doing much better now with the sales tax in place, but greed is starting to sink in with the gov't personnel, and the islands police, EMS, public works dept's are all on strike and have been even before we arrived to the island in June. And no end in sight. The only ones working now are basically supervisors and managers on a skeleton crew basis. The gov't is trying to reduce the retirement funds and reduce salaries to the nearly retired folks and the employee's are not happy with it at all, and rightfully so. If I was being told that my pension that I paid into for over 20-30 yrs is going to be cut in half, I would be pissed and fight for every penny invested. The monies that was borrowed by the gov't has been paid back as it was on a 10 year repayment schedule when the sales tax went into place. The island is a US territory, and has a standing congressional gov't, but greed and corruption from all the revenue generated from taxation which I believe is at 6% is starting to ruin what established gov't there is. We moved here only to tend to my wifes mothers needs as she is suffering from Parkinson desease. So I decided to go ahead and retire 5 years early, and my wife got transferred to the island with her job as a federal employee. So it is a weird enviroment to say the least. I have been married just over 20 yrs now adn my wife is puerto rican, but I never took the time or had the desire to learn spanish. So it is twice as hard for me to communicate on the outside.

I am hoping that my mach grille delete and chin spoiler make here soon, there is a yearly mustang run here on the island on the 13th that my neighbor and I am going to participate in. Most mustangs around here are foxbodies, very few 99-04 models. The best looking mustangs on the island are near San Juan area as that is where all the big money is at. But when looking to buy one in that area, just too much money is wanted when looking to buy one in that area. But the run basicallly goes completely around the whole island in one day, about 300 miles worth of traveling and stop and go at certain check points for others to meet and join in. I always get great compliments and questions asked about mine as I got to say it is one of the nicest in the area, and I am not trying to brag what so ever, just a fact. What I have found out by being here and visiting all the mustangs in hopes of purchase before I bought this is that many do not invest in aftermarlet parts or mods. They tend to what I call backyard mechanic or jerry-rig parts. If it is broke, then fix it with duct tape and wire, and rattle can everything. Only a select few that are true gear heads go the extra mile to build a car. And I am one to repair with new or mod with the right parts, so that sets mine apart from most in my area. Even my neighbor, he spray paints the intake, plenum and throttle body with blue rattle can, and overspray everywhere. Just ugly, but they like it.

Well got some new parts in tonite. Looks like I will be busy in the morning. Got the Mach 1 grille delete and chin spoiler in from AM. Just in time for next weekends mustang run here on the island. Still waiting on my windshield lettering to come in that will say GRUMPY in yellow 5" lettering.

I was shocked to see the chin spoiler come with bolts/nuts/washers instead of plastic push pins. I even went out today to Home Depot and purchased a 20 set of bolts/nuts/washers thinking it would not come with them.

Nice, that is going to look light years better than the honeycomb. My buddy and I did an install on the chin spoiler (from LRS) way back in 2005 and it came with the push pins. Installed nice and tight and never had a problem. I'd recommend you get a helper to keep the chin spoiler lined up when you go to drill the holes though, it makes the install way easier.

have you decided if you will have it run flush with the edge of the bumper cover or set back like a true mach 1 chin

No, these are designed to set flush with the front bumper edge. The original Mach 1's did not have wrap around chin spoiler's, they had a slight curve but from fender to fender mounted on the front valance, and they were pitched at a 45 degree angle too.

Well I got the chin spoiler on, and the mach 1 grille delete on with the Snake in the center.

The chin spoiler went on pretty quickly and no problems with alignment. I just marked center of bumper, ad then that point around on each side and then drilled my holes. It came out perfect for being the first try.

The grille delete was a different story. The original grille had 4 screws that faced upside down and were a PITA to get to, especially with my fat fingers. Then the grille came out and I installed the grille blank for fitment first. What I found out while I first fit placed it to make sure there were no fitment issues I found that there were some design flaws.

First flaw I saw that did not look right to me was after you installed the flat base, and then the radiator support cover went on after that. Once I placed the support cover on, I noticed that the tabs that have the front two screw tabs over hung the grille delete by at least 3/4", which looked stupid ugly. Also, the push pins that secure the grille delete in place were too short to allow the plastic screw to go down all the way, the grille delete was too thick. Then there is the body color that is under the radiator support that is exposed once all is in place.

So, to fix the support screw issue, I used 2 of the original grilles slider nuts and slide them on the core support tab, then used the 2 screws of the grille to fasten the whole assembly down. That thing is not moving now. Way stronger than the original setup.

Then there was the core support yellow paint showing through and made the install look ugly. I taped it all off, and painted the exposed yellow paint black to match the grille assembly.

Then there was the radiator support cover that had the forward two tabs that overhung too far forward which made the grille delete look generic. So what I did was trim about a half inch off both tabs without losing the function of being fastened, then rounded the edges to give it a original look if no one were to know that I did that.

Then the horse emblem and mount that came with the kit I put aside for a snake. I fabricated 2 screws that I cut the head off, then tapped 2 seperate holes in the back of the snake at top and bottom, drilled two holes into the center piece of the core support and pushed the upper and lower screw through each hole and then installed a nut on the inside, then a lock washer and nut on the backside so to tighten against the front nut. Came out like it was supposed to be that way from factory I think. No other way I could think of to mount it since it is not an OEM snake for the cobra front, but a larger 5" snake.

Then there is the finished front grille. I did more fabrication then I ever imagined to make this look halfway sharp. It actually with the hood down, and the blacked out painting I did, made the whole thing look awesome.

Here is what it looks like from after a good washing. Even my little nephew threw in some sweat and helped with washing it.

I even got the side cobra emblems on along with the svt in back with an additional cobra in back for good measure. I disgarded those ugly *** 35th Anniversary badges. I think it turned out pretty good. I am just waiting for the windshield graphics to come in that will say GRUMPY in yellow letters.

I may, but I am more interested in getting a Cervini Cobra R hood or cowl.
