Moved to 99-04 GT section. As far as mods go, what are your goals? I like to recommend wheels and a drop but other people recent other mods, so it'd help if we knew what you're looking for.

This is a good write-up for the basic bolt-ons that get done on these cars. http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/f392/t352496/

For bolt ons i,'d start with exhaust, intake, gears and a tune. Also a short throw shifter if you have a manual. American muscle is a great place, free shipping and also a site sponsor.

As said wheels are great upgrade.. They can improve handling and traction not to mention make your car look badass!

Lowering springs Also improve both looks and handling.

What type of upgrades do you want?

Power? Handling? Looks?

I would like to get the most power out of it without having to dig into the engine

Forget the throttle body, stock is fine until you do dig into the engine. Long tubes are the the only headers that will net any noticeable gains. I'd start with exhaust, intake and a tune. That will net some noticeable gains without breaking the bank.

Gears are probably the best bang for your buck bolt on. They won't net any power gains but will better distribute power throughout the powerband.

If you feel basic bolt one aren't enough step up to h/c/i mods. There will be better gains but expect to pay more.

Finally forced induction is the top tier mod..produces the best gains but also costs thousands when done correctly.

Keep in mind there are supporting mods as well such as brakes, suspension and traction related mods.

I did CAI, Tune, Gears, full exhaust with Longtubes. Gain was very noticeable once the exhaust was done.
