If it's out of a continental, it won't work. Block is different since it was fwd. But any other 4v will work No problem. But the continental had the 4v C heads, and are a cheap alternative to buying cobra 4v or mach 1 c heads.

Ok so after a few months and some minor setbacks, I got the 4v pretty much ready to go in!

Last week I tried to install the flywheel. Long story short, I had to tap the threads, and was able to get the tranny on today. Also installed my longtubes and a new starter. Its original, so I decided it's easier to just do it now, as opposed to having to pay for it anyways, and have to deal with it again. I also installed some caster camber plates, and tomorrow I'm gonna attempt to get her back in the car

Thanks! Planned on getting the engine in today, but we had a ton of rain, and my buddy wasn't able to help me out. So, hoping to get it in after the 1st.

What shop is that at? Tampa is my old stomping ground before I joined the Air Force. I've had work done at Ramsey's in Lutz as well as Coastal Dyno off Causeway. Both are good shops IMO. I think when I get stateside in a few years I'm just gonna go with an On3 Turbo Kit and call it a day. 4 valves sound a lot better IMO, but I'm not sure if I can deal with the wiring. Anyways good luck and looking forward to the numbers when it's done.

Im thinking about Ramseys for the tune, or Ford Speed. Coastal Dyno is literally a mile from where I live, but I've heard some not so good things about them. My buddy's place is off Ulmerton in Largo. It's called Brady Performance. Hes been building Big block chevys for decades, but does just about everything. The guy is a living encyclopedia of automotive knowledge Lol

Finally got the 4v in my car today! Took alittle persuasion, but it's bolted in now. Finished splicing the wires for the alternator and oil pressure sensor (broke when I removed it from the old engine), and put the front suspension together and the drive shaft. Tomorrow I'll be adding my new midpipe, and rest of the exhaust. Then I'll work on reconnecting all the plugs and hoses. Need to figure out the heater and coolant hoses, fuel line, throttle cable, and hopefully she'll be good to start!

Sorry for the poor pictures, but my hands were covered in gunk and I didn't want to dirty my phone. Tomorrow I'll take some better ones. And from the top too!

Nice!

We used to have a saying when I was building custom homes:
"When you think that you are close to being done, there is still about 75% of the work left to do!"
It's always the small stuff that takes most of the time!

Your making good progress and I can see that you are thinking ahead by changing the starter.

Great job so far!

Thanks! Yeah that's so true! I've got a 2000 Cobra R hood, and I still might need to put a 3" cowl on it to get it to fit....lol might see if I can cut a layer out of my my hood though. Either way it's gonna be close!

The GT bottom radiator hose works fine. I did trim about 1" off it so it didn't bind up.

Cut the stock fuel hose at the pulse dampener, and get about 3 feet of fuel injector line, and two fuel injector clamps. You can remove the male fitting and extend it using the new hose. Clamp one end to the pulse dampener, and the other to the male end. Plug in and done!

Yeah higher than I thought too. Most I've talked to said a 2 1/2" cowl was perfect for this swap. Maybe some spacers on the k memeber would have helped, but I didn't feel like dealing with it lol

I ended up using my stock GT CAI, but I had to cut some of it off to get it to fit. Also had to trim the throttle bracket so it would clear the hood as well. I used the aviator throttle cable, but it was too long. So I cut alittle off the end that goes inside the car, then secured a nut so it would stay on the peddle.

I also had to fab up some coolant lines for the heater core, but I think it cost me 20 bucks in hoses and adapters. One of the lines from the gt heater core is bigger than the other. And on the aviator engine both are the same size. So I had to get some brass fittings to adapt the right sizes.

I ended up having one of the power steering pressure lines from the rack to the hydroboost start leaking. I ordered ordered a new hosw, and it'll be in tomorrow. Then it's off to the alignment shop, then the exhaust shop to get my mufflers welded in correctly (previous guy did a poor job of welding them in.thwy wouldn't go on right with my new setup).

Heres a short video of her starting up for the first time. Note there are no mufflers, and one of the pulleys is squeaking or the bed was moving (its not anymore) http://youtu.be/TP-56TZUmME

I think he was estimating it at 300 whp after his tune. I believe that is what he mentioned previously in the thread.

Yeah around there. Got the alignment done today, and dropped it off to have the what's welded up. I'm gonna try and get it tuned this friday, but to be honest it runs so good as is, I might wait till I get back in town to get her tuned.

Beautiful!
That swap went pretty smooth! The V8 Mustangs should have all come from the factory with 4 valve engines already installed.

Nice job man!

Nice job and yea that install was fast as hell. took me 1 month to do my swap. A 6 inch WOW. Dumb question, but is it the deck height of the 5.4 or just the intake manifold that makes that much more height? I'm assuming a March 8, Mach 1, or 99-01 cobra intake would work too so you don't need the adapter plates and reuse the stock PI 2V intake right? I guess maybe that's an option for later down the road or get that HPS Hardballin-R intakes (probably cost as much as your motor though). Looking forward to the progress.

It's a 4v 4.6 out of an aviator, but it's the intake from the aviator that makes it so tall. The 5.4 it alittle taller of a deck, and also just a tad bit wider.

Here's the underside I got a shot of after the muffler place got it all welded for me. I spent a good 4 hours replacing the high pressure power steering hoses after. What a PITA, but now there are no leaks

Oh I also wanted to say I got a valeo clutch, supposedly the same as the FRPP king cobra clutch, but less pedal effort. It's like a night and day difference over the stock one. I'll definitely be getting one for my Foxbody next lol

I respect your skills! Great work! A lot of people say their going to swap this and swap that, It's Nice to see someone do it with success. If I had the confidence to do a swap I would in a heartbeat. Still have a ton to learn.
