No dash lights at night

Hi, I'm C.j and I just bought my 02 Gt last week and I went to drive it after dark and noticed I couldn't see anything but the red gauge lines but everything else is dark. Now I asked the guy I bought it from and he thought the previous owner did something to it, any ideas? Oh and I noticed my traction control button has no light and nothing comes up on the dash either! Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I'd start by checking the dimmer switch and make sure that it's turned up.
Next, check the fuse for the instrument panel illumination.

If no lights come on at all on the dash it might be the headlight switch itself.

I had 01 with the same problem. Turned out to be the previous owner put some kind of reverse glow gauges on the car at one point. Because of this he took the bulbs out of the dash cluster so that it wouldn't mess with the lighting on the gauges he installed.

When I got the car the reverse glow stopped working (wiring nightmare) so I just pulled it all out and plugged it new bulbs (kind of a hassle to find them)

No dash lights at night

Common problem with these cars. More than likely it's the dimmer switch.
Good luck with it.

Cbird, you said exactly what my problem is, the previous owner did the same thing !! So now I'm trying to figure out if it's something I can do myself or if I should just take it somewhere to make sure it's done right. Thank you so much for the reply!

Hey man! I'm glad I can help. I know i had to jump through more than a few hoops to come to that conclusion haha.

I'm not sure the exact size of the bulbs that you need but I do remember that it was pretty easy to do. The cluster comes out very easy and it's just plug and play (well, twist and play as the bulbs twist into place).

When searching for bulbs use "99-04 Ford Mustang gauge cluster bulb" as your search title. That's what they are labeled as. That is if you're looking for stock bulbs, might not be a bad time to swap in some white or blue LEDs while you're in there?

Good luck man!
