Clutch cable?

Lately when i try to shift gears its been a struggle. I have to literally muscle the shifter into gear. And then on occasion it shifts smooth like butter. But thats very rarely. I went to start my car just a minute ago and it wouldnt start while it was in gear. Only in neautral. I can easily move the shifter through the gears while the motor is off. Just recently i noticed my clutch cable was fouled up. With it adjusted all the way out like it is the pedal feels a little to spongey. This is an autozone clutch cable that is only 4 months old. Hoping a new oem clutch cable is my solution and not a bigger problem. Any help is always appreciated.

Clutch cable?

Get rid of the autozone cable that dont even look right it looks like the cable is broke where it enters the adjuster, might just be the picture but id start with a adjustable cable from AM or of a reputable site of your choice i use AM and late model restoration but u want to adjust it down at the clutch fork so that u make only minor adjustments at the firewall adjuster and also make sure your clutch fork is still center of the clutch ( sometimes they move slightly and can cause problems)

This one is alright :

SR Performance Mustang Adjustable Clutch Cable (96-04 All) - Free Shipping

Not sure why so many people dislike it, But it does its job. My friend put it on his because his cable was already at the end of its days and half the time, it wouldn't switch gears because of it.

They were also on sale last month for $10 each.

I think that American Muscle has FRPP clutch cables. And you can use the forum discount.

You want this one

Ford Replacement Mustang Clutch Cable XR3Z-7535-CA (96-04 4.6L V8, Excludes 03-04 Cobra) - Free Shipping

Run another one and your car will hate you, children will laugh at you, the mailman will sleep with your wife and baby jesus will cry.

In all seriousness, don't run a non OEM/MM cable. The MM cable is only good because its a clone of the OEM one and made by the OEM manufacturer so its identical. The SR one is garbage, its basically a Napa one. It'll start binding up just like all the other parts store ones.

What does a clutch quadrant do for me?

Read the last paragraph of that page and look at the last pic of the two clutch cables. Go ahead and run a $10 cable in your car. Have fun when you are stranded if you can't rev match it home or you booger a gear because you cheaped out and bought a ****ty cable to try and save money on a 100k+ mile wear part.
