Recommend me a good head and cam swap

I have a 02 GT with the 3650 trans and I'd like to build my upper end. I've done some looking around for heads and cams but here's my issue... I live in California. For those of you that live out here you know what it's like. So here's what's holding me back. With any after marker head and can set up I have to go with a new intake manifold but aftermarket intakes manifolds don't allow an EGR set up like the stock PI mani. What set up can I go with? I need to keep my EGR and any smog related equipment. Smog stations out here are hella strict. If I had an EGR delete they'd fail me and I'd have to swap everything back to OEM to pass. So I need insight and some good cams and heads for a DD out here in Cali. Click image for larger version

Just throw a blower on it, don't waste the money with heads/ cams on the 2v especially since you want to keep your car legal.

So keep stock heads and cam them and throw a KB charger on there. Doesn't that require a new intake mani!

A twin screw will, but a centri will not. They make smog legal centri blowers for your car, I'm not sure if the kenne bell is smog legal or not

Ok. What's you opinion on a stock head rebuild and a small shot of some no2. I'm trying to stay within a budget. I was also considering rebuilding my stock heads. Port/ polish, cams, valves, springs, retainers with a 25 or 50 shot. I'm really lookin to say N/A.

You can do heads and cams if you want it seriously is just not worth the cost imo. I watched my cousin do heads/cams on his 2v and it just does not justify the cost.
But I do not think your car will pass smog at all with cams.

And as far as nitrous goes. You will not feels a 25 shot at all nor a 50 shot on a NA car.

I would go with a minimum of a 75-100.

If you are an all motor type of guy the 4.6 2v is not the motor for you then, thats in all seriousness. Most i've seen all motor out of them is a 5.3 big bore stroker, upped compression, TFS heads with MHS stage 4 cams and all the works. Put out 393whp and 398tq. That motor i bet cost over $10k to build also. You can get that number with a cam only LS1. These modular motors you have to boost to get power out of them.

I was considering an LSX set up. I was going to do a Lq4 with Ls3 heads. Make 350ish stock. Easy 400 with cam and tune. But don't really wanna put a Chevy motor in a Ford? Just sounds and feels wrong. And I'm an all motor guy just for now. On a budget. I'm just looking to build my upper end to gain a little HP. Living in California makes having a steer car hard.

What I think I'm gonna do is rebuild my stock heads and throw in a nice street cam and get a vortech charger. I need a little more cash though. That vortech runs about 4200 which isn't too bad for the complete kit.

Bud, i just peiced together a vortech setup for our 2v for 1800 total and everything bought new except the blower with a tune ill have 2100 into it total but ima have to get a a/f gauge and boost gauges so just a tad more but u get my drift? Wayyyyy less then the 4500 kit http://mustangforums.com/forum/pipes...html?styleid=9 thats a good writeup i followed it but the price on the parts from vortech have went up since then so 1500 is not realistic but i did it for 1800 the price really depends on how much u can find a used blower for it then u can always add blower cams and a good set of heads, then theres always a coyote swap but no motor swap is gonna be budget friendly unless u go to the mark8 swap cuz u can run stock ecu.. Ect .... But on our 2vs you dont really need to change the stock pi intake unless you are going to turn 7500+ rpms for what it is it really is a great intake if i change anything on it ima just get the bbk upper plenun that comes with tb attached for cost effectiveness but you cant deny 400rwhp for 2100 is a dam good $ to hp ratio but i paid i think 650 for my blower and it came freshly rebuilt from vortech and never ran after ( dude bought it for his gm car but turns out he got a ccw and he needed a cw and learned after he got it changing it over wont worth it)
