Goods and Bads

Now that I have already bought one, what are the goods and bads of the New Edge GTs. The looks of it have to top the goods list.

Well the spark plugs have a tendency to leave their homes if over torqued even just a little bit. You should have the revised intake manifold but they do still end up leaking on occasion. The 3650 Trans was over filled from the factory so if the car is a manual and hasn't had the trans fluid replaced then make sure to do that and fill it with 3.2qts I stead of going until it spills out of the hole.

Those are really the only 3 things I can think of right now. Post up some pics when you get a chance. Are you planning on moving it or just using it as a driver?

Goods and Bads

Great motor but slower now since it is like 12 years old.. Interior is crappy

Pretty much everything is said above. Rest will be more opinion than anything.

Seat belt retractors need their mechanisms changed normally, they start to not retract lol.

Not exactly sure what it's role will be. I just think they are cool and when that generation was new, I wasn't able to own one. Is it tunable with a hand held or is still of the "replaced chip" type? Here are some shots. It is missing it's tailpipes and sounds rather nice. I have to figure out how to bring them all the way back without losing that sound.

Nice ride. No tail fin too, cool! You'll have to see/know the set up before we can tell you how to keep it but throw it out the back. You'll probably just have turn downs with stock mid pipe. Unless it's like hella loud. If it's really loud then you may have a mid pipe

You can do a hand held tuner like the newer cars. My guess is they lopped off the mufflers and dumped it, or just took off the catback.

2 questions that pop into mind..... Are there any holes in your deck lid? And is that grille factory? Only 99-04s I know of that come with a black grille surround were the Bullitts, unless that one has been painted or dipped.

Yes, there are holes and yes, I believe it's dipped. I'd run out and check it but it's still at the seller's as I have not been able to get help in getting it home. My son is going to weld the holes shut and repaint the trunk lid. I will probably clean the dipped grille/pony. I generally like spoilers, but the only one I like for the New Edge is the one for the Cobra. I think that I actually like the clean look better.

Same here but it's ~600 bucks. The Saleen one is a good compromise but not as clean as the cobra spoiler.

I have found a few on ebay for $450-475, still high when you compare it to the ones for the '10-'14s.

Good - Everything lol
Bad - intake manifolds leak , could get pricey if you want to get more than 300rwhp. Imo

Glad to hear "Everything" is good. Yeah, I've heard about the manifolds. It's only going to be a fun daily driver. Stock hp is just fine.

The outside "skin" on the deck lid is not metal. It is a composite material, the same with the hood.
So don't bother trying to weld the holes shut.

Thought that felt kind of odd. I wonder if the cobra spoiler will cover both sets of holes left by the stock wing?

Is this Mach1000 sound system, OEM? Sounds pretty nice but finds all your rattles very quick.

Yea the Mach 1000 was the highest option. Its like the Shaker 1000 they called it in newer ones. And the lastest they call it is the Shaker Pro Audio. Its the highest level that came in the car. Most common is Mach 460, which is the same thing, just none of the trunk set up.

OK folks, the car has finally made it home and I spent the last few days working on it.

First, I changed the oil and filter, tranny fluid (total flush) and filter, and bought new tires. I went my own way here. Instead of replacing them with 245/45-17s like they had, I went with 235/60-17s. These are the same size that my '11 V6 came with new. They are taller and fill the wheel well nicer. Speedo is off a bit but that will be fixed with a tuner.

Next, the exhaust system. The previous owner had installed 3" mid pipes to a pair of Flowmasters. That's it. These just dumped out in front of the rear axle. They sounded great outside the car and from a distance but were a nightmare to drive with. I went to my local muffler shop and had them install tail pipes with really nice generic 4" tips. It is now a pleasure to drive and it looks and sounds great.

Finally, I have a friend who owns a wrecker service. As it turns out he had in his impound lot, an abandoned 2000 Fobra. Unfortunately both front and rear bumpers were torn and not usable, but the spoiler/trunklid, front grille and driver's seat were all perfect and I got them all for $100.

All that I have left to do now is a CAI/tune and paintjob and possibly gears. Woohoo!

Only "bads" i can think of about em is the firewall doesnt block much sound. the shifter is sittin right on top of the transmission, as opposed to the way it sits in the newer models, so tranny noises. I think a lot of them have a rattling/grind sound in 5th gear, which is shrugged off as normal. mine does it when the fluid is cold. the dash tends to have a rattle which is easily fixed, and thats just buy pulling the fascia off, and sticking something behind it and putting it back on. but if your listening to music or just driving fast, then all this probably goes unnoticed.

otherwise, bulletproof car. got mine with 139k miles, likeley beaten on, still strong.

I've got an auto, so no prob on those tranny quirks. Yes, I've noticed the squeaky dash and it tends to buzz at times with the radio. I have a broken radio bezel with a new one on order, so I hope that fixes that problem.
