2000 GT trans refill

After putting the catback on my GT i noticed my trans was leaking. Looked further up and saw the gasket was not sealing properly. Previous owner put a short throw in and i assume a gasket off of americanmuscle because the gasket is orange. Anyways i bought 4 quarts of pennzoil syncromesh and permetx ultra black. I've never drain trans before. And i see 2 bolts on the trans. The bottom is to drain of course. Can i refill from the shifter? And 3.2 quarts is recommended?

You can refill from the shifter. And it's really easy to drain the transmission almost like doing an oil change really just a few more things involved.

Thanks! Got it done today and man does it shift 10x better. Going in Reverse was easy then ever! I used 3.2Qts Pennzoil Synchromesh and rtv gasket seal. I highly recommend no one to use the orange gasket from AM (Mustang Shifter Base & Handle Gasket (82-04 V8; 93-01 Cobra; 94-04 V6) - Free Shipping) Because that's what cause my leak in the first place. I pulled my shifter off and that gasket was pushed out from the shifter. I did not put it on but I know now not to use one of those gaskets.

Those gaskets always squeeze out and it leaks after awhile. The AM ones are knock offs of the "Cobrabob" gaskets but those leaked on me too when I used them. Always just did black RTV and it never leaked. And yes, pennzoil syncrhomesh is the ****.

yea sometimes when pullin on the shifter for a quicker shift, i notice the smell of transmission fluid. i think i got lazy the last time i put rtv on it. theres mobil 1 synthetic mercv in there now, and i have no issues with shifting. i was on the fence about putting that pennzoil synchromesh in. anyone know if its better than mobil1 or about the same?

If you have no issues with shifting I'd leave the M1 in there. However if you notice its a little notchy or is hard to shift when cold, give the Pennzoil a shot.
