If it got stuck it could cause a car to over heat so if you got stuck somewhere you could take it out and and drive it again

No thermostat?

Naw u could run no thermostat it just it take forever to warm up and what ppl dun realize that it also helps cool because after it opens it will then again close trapping /slowing down most of the water in the radiator to cool down then once it gets hot again ( enough to open) it opens and lets all that cool water that was trapped in the radiator into the motor, now will it run hot without one, not usually but it would make warming up take alot longer especially if its very cold outside all in all its good to have the thermostat because it helps maintain one temperature

Not wise to run without a thermostat. The engine is designed to burn the fuel at a certain temperature, so the ECU/PCM mappings will constantly be trying to compensate for the wrong engine temps. This will effect your MPG. Your oil will contaminate quicker as well, as a cooler engine will not burn out any condensation from the oil that can collect.

Its also going to be a higher polluter.

They do make thermostats that have fail safes built into them so that if they are broken they freeze in the open position to prevent overheating.
