For suspension you are going to want rear lower control arms and then either you can go with a set of upper control arms, or you can swap to a panhard bar and torque arm set up. That is more complicated and more expensive though.
As for tires, its not necessarily the size of the tire, but the compound it is made of. If you really want to be competitive get a set of drag radials, or even most R compound tires will work better than street tires, but they don't last as long.
