Getting a cool/Mean look

SO I have a 1999 mustang GT 35th anniversary. Its a very stock looking silver convertible. It looks decent, but it doesn't have an intimidating presence like the black coupes do, especially when they have deep dish rims and are a little lowered. I want to get it looking a little bit cooler, but I don't know where to start. Where would you start if you were me? Money IS a factor since I am still in college. This is my Daily driver and I don't have a nice shop to work in, so Im not doing any performance mods. I need it reliable and cant have down time. So im going with making it look clean and mean.

Im looking at things like front spoiler, maybe some wheels, lowering it, getting tints, etc but I want the most bang for my buck. Maybe point me in the right direction.

Here are a few ideas for you.

Stuff like tinted headlights and tail lights, Mach 1 chin, rear spoiler delete, lower the car, 18" deep dish wheels, window tint ect......

Be careful when it comes to tint. While yes it looks cool if you go to dark expect to get a ticket 😭 also i think the spoilers look nice but the 02+ in black the same with the rear decklid being black as well.

that car looks really good in those photos. I definitely wish I had that look. Im thinking about painting it but ive never painted a car before and Id have to learn how to do it well. I think if it were black it would pull off the rag top look a lot better since the fabric is black. And yeah deep dish wheels are a must have on mustangs. Im accepting cash donations to fund it haha

Panther 140, Keep in mind that your education is now your main priority and that in fact a car - any car - is still just a car. I can't imagine that you don't have other expenses. Give this some thought, and trust your intuition on this matter. If you MUST put non-repair/maintenance money into your car, I'd suggest body decals. Check with Ford or a very reliable body shop on selection and price, and spend only as much as you can justifiably afford. You already have a cool car!

Silver, right? Look into decklid and rear valence decals. I used to have something like that on my white 02 gt. chin spoilers are a good addon. theres supposed to be some kind of tinted headlight covers out there that can be easily removed for night driving. I wanted those for mine, but i cant really find em anywhere. advane autoparts has a part number, but i'd have to buy em just to see what they look like. so i never did.

Chin spoiler and tint are both cheaper exterior mods you could do. Save up a bit and get lowering springs, the proper shock/strut combo for it and some staggered deep dish wheels. That's where I would start.

Yeah my entire tuition for my degree is only $10k though, and I had most of that saved up already from working in high school. I barely have any student loans, I live with my parents, and I work 20 hours a week lol. Im still not going to dump a ton of money into my car because Im going to buy a newer one in like 2 years. Ill have a good job by then I hope because I will have been out of school for 4 months

Here's a silver coupe that is very mildly, yet tastefully done.

-Lowered
-Tint
-Rims
-Amber Markers
-Bullitt/Mach Sail panels
-Termi side skirts (these are pricey tho)
-Bullitt side scoops

What else I would do:

-Mach Lip
-Spoiler delete

You can also always do a few small bolt ons that will not effect the reliability of the car whatsoever and can be done in a day like a catback and a plenum/tb/cai and then get a handheld tuner for it. Will really wake it up and still be just as reliable as it is now.

Wheels, drop, Mach 1 lip, and the CDC light bar make verts look pretty badass. I personally think the blacked out look is played out and would try for something else. 18" Saleens are a tried and true set of wheels that look great on almost any setup.

This is my ride but I have a coupe so of course they won't look exactly the same. The 99s and 00s look a little funny when wingless since they don't have the front hood scoop like the 01-04s

Sve drifts from late model resto. The AMRs on AM are very similar too. Don't get saleens... They are played out as hell.

Panther 140, I'm glad you're planing not "to dump a ton of money" into your car. Any unnecessary money you spend on your current ride is dough you won't have for a future car. You seem thoughtful and focused, and I hope you do land a good job when you're out of school. Until then, I suggest you enjoy your present Mustang to the fullest, and spend your money wisely, even if it means deferring dressing it up for now. My best to you!

Yeah they look really good. I'm surprised nobody else seems to run them
I've only seen one other New Edge with them on this forum.

I'm kind of curious to see AMR's on a new edge. Everybody always says that FR500s and Saleens are played out, but the only place I ever see them are on forums. I almost never see any locals with either of those two rims.

Bingo! That thing looks good with those rims. I think id like to add a hood scoop like that. I like spoiler deletes too so Im going to see how it looks with hood scoop, mach 1 chin spoiler, lower it 1.5-2 inches, and spoiler delete. Thats all pretty cheap stuff I can do. Tints later on and maybe when im working more this summer I can snag a cheap set of black deep dish rims and sell my stockers. Idk though, that spoiler looks good on yours

My vote is keep the wing on. Verts look funny without one

Agreed. Verts look goofy wingless. New Edges are already good looking. Just add some simple, tastefull appearance mods and you will be set. I enjoy the silver/black appearance.

bro silver mustangs look beast with black accents.. get the tint, chin spoiler, lower it, black out the tails, and get some wheels (preferably black).. in my opinion the wheels you get will determine how good the wing or wingless look will look.. bullitt wheels look great without the wing but any other wheel (cobra, fr500, saleen) tend to look better with the wing.. i have a midnight blue 99 gt vert with everything i suggested.. i have bullitts without a wing and i love the look

Yeah it has a slightly bigger wing than stock though. Its not prominent, but you can see the difference. I agree with the idea of black accents. I think Im gonna use that advice for real.

Yeah I love my stang so much its gonna start making my girlfriend jeleous haha. On a serious note, I am really happy that I can even have a reliable, V8, manual trans mustang of any generation. I noticed myself just instinctively slow down while I was driving somewhere today, because it would extend the time inside my mustang lol. Best $3500 I could have spent lol
