Best MPG (5 speed)

SO guys, who is getting the best mpg here, and how do you do it? I am not sure what I am getting for mpg, but I drive my mustang 600 miles a week. Rain, snow, sleet, hurricanes, does not matter. Im in my stangalang iron-manning it out. But I wonder what cruising speed gets the best mpg.
The car seems happy at 75 mph in 5th gear. Is there a better speed/gear combo for getting me to school every day? I drive 2 hours round trip to school.. I could probably test out combos and post them here.

For real though, test it out at different driving habits and rpms. Do you know how to calculate your mpg?

Yes I know how to calculate the average mpg. Its pretty basic haha. Is that something some people don't know how to do? lol.
Anyways, a mechanic at a local shop I hang out at sometimes claims he got 31 mpg in his 400rwhp Cobra while driving out of state 3 weeks ago. He said he just put it in 5th, set cruise at 75 and didn't race anybody (may or may not be possible for me)

Anyway, how in the hell are you only getting 8 mpg? lol. Do you have a led foot or a bored+Stroked+cammed+supercharged+carbed car? My 1999 GT was EPA rated at like 24 highway mpg. I know EPA ratings are pretty much bull**** just like everything else the government says, but still.

I said 13 lol. I have a lead foot. On the highway I can manage 16-17. The 4.10s don't help.

oh haha yeah I mis read it. Its late. I transposed the 8 from the "IH8MPG" plate saying lol. Yeah I could see 13 in town with a lead foot. That's not too bad for 4.10s and a lead foot.

I got 27 mpg once, on a long trip where I was on the freeway for an entire tank of fuel. Round trip average.
And that was at about 70-75 mph which is around 2000 RPM's in fifth gear.
Make sure that your tires are properly inflated and your car is tuned up. And most importantly, drive at a steady speed. If you are driving in hilly terrain, avoid using the cruise control. You will get better gas mileage by anticipating the hills and adding a small amount of additional throttle before you start up the grade instead of the cruise control "flooring it" midway up the hill to maintain the vehicles pre-set speed.

So it sounds like 70-75 is a good number for these cars? And yeah when I drive and im trying to get good mpg I don't over do it with the throttle. WHen I do need to accelerate, I just give it baby baby amounts of throttle. THat way Im not lugging the engine and pouring more fuel into the cylinders than it needs.

I cruised a lot out of gear and used braking and throttle conservatively cruise control was my friend and taking advantage of highways and hills, and knowing when you are going to stop to pullout of gear sooner and blah blah blah..

300 miles with 15 gallons filled up (.7 till empty) is 20mpg. You will need in the 350 range for 25 or higher, which is unlikely. And how much did your car weigh speed mister? Have you weighed it?

No but the only interior was driver seat, steering wheel, and dash at that time. All ac deleted, EGR deleted, anything not needed it was gone, no bumper supports.. I'm a pretty strong guy, but I could push my car with three fingers on the deck lid give it a good push and it sure would start rolling, the car was light as balls.

Oh I don't have that car anymore. That was when I was first driving when I turned 16. I'm not sure how much it weighed, but it pulled the front tires off the ground at the drag strip. I wouldn't take my new car apart like that unless I needed to.

25 dollar bluetooth dongle and dashCommand will give you all the gas mileage information you could possibly want to know.

For some reason mine wont calculate correctly. When im stopped, it doesnt lower. so it ends up telling me i get like 30 mpg city, only dropping during acceleration. it acts like im cruising at idle with no throttle or something. idk.

but when my lights on, i pump clicks at about 13 gallons. But my trips from my parents house to home (160 miles) and the rest of the tank around town for work, i tend to hit just over 300 miles. I had an estimate, where i filled up, drove 160 miles, and filled up again and calculated and i got somewhere around 25 i think. this is driving 70 and sometimes 80 briefy on the highway, and 2000 rpm shifts in town, ac on the highway and ac off in town. I wanted to try 65mph home with no ac and see what happens, but my fiance wont let me drive that slow and without ac. but I tend to get 17mpg city at best. Lowest has been 15.

But according to one of the bluetooth apps, my estimated "current" mpg showed the same mpg at 65 with ac on vs 70 w/o ac. Dont know how accurate it is to say that ac adds mpg of an extra 5mph on the highway though.

idk I have heard air conditioning on some cars really takes a hit out of the mpg. Like 15-20 percent in some cases. I cant confirm this, but I have heard it too.

talkin about on the highway? or should i leave it in 4th gear at 40mph (about 2k with 3.27 gears) instead of cruising at 1000 in the city?

If you are lugging it around at 1k rpm in the city you are beating the **** out of your motor. Keep it above 1600 minimum always.

If its at 1k rpm, but not under heavy throttle I don't think its bad. But if you're engine is at 1k rpm and its getting the full volume of the cylinders filled with fuel/air, that's gonna beat it up when that combusts. That energy has to go somewhere

Good to know. but yea, im talkin flat surface, minimal throttle, just keepin it moving forward. otherwise if theres an incline or need to speed up i throw it in 4th. Ill wait til 45 to shift up and see how that goes.

What else do you have to get to use the dash command app? I'm guessing it's some sort of blue tooth thing that plugs into the the OBD-II port? I've always wanted some thing like this

Bluetooth odb2 dongle.

I have a bafx works with new edge CPU.

That's the cheapest I found. The scan xl dongle is the best but is over a hundred.

I've always heard 55-60MPH, and that's also what owners manuals typically say

I looked that one up but only seems to work with androids. Is there a version that works for IOS?

The nice thing about 4.10s in our cars is 3rd gear tops at 80mph, and that's my normal driving speed on the highway. So just do a 3rd gear pull and set cruise control.
